i like this remake stuff, it's going really nice.
The main room with the desk is cool. I like the pillars, they remind me of something out of starwars.

The previous screens of the corridor is nice, but the color tone of the doors don't match the colors of the rest of the room. I know there is a door of that type that matches in the HL.wad somewhere, if not, try make your own or use another door fixture.

I did this in a map i did. it's easy! This is how i did it...

You talk to a sci and tell him to follow you. You bring him to an elevator where and the floor and the floor of the elevator are side-to-side and form and perfectly smooth surface. If there any alterations, the sci will not follow you onto the elevator. push a button and it takes both of you down. The bottom floor should be smooth like the top. Toggle the sci and have him follow you to your secret or whatever.

if you want your sci to move on his own, give him a path and some ents to use the elevator, but the key-trick is the smoothness of the floors. there can't be any gap or edge, otherwise he'll be a dumbass and stop.

HL.DLL is mostly the base coding for HL.
CLIENT.DLL is (i think) stuff like the player's model, variables, and what-not that is set by the config.cfg

from what i know, leave the CLIENT.DLL alone unless something happens where you need to change it.

Most maps for steam mods can have a mapname.cfg where variables can be set. I don't know much about this so look into it. If you play alot on steam, you might have some examples in your maps folder.

oh, and garg is right about the visual mapping thing.
I admit there are people better than me in many cases, but understand that the HL engine is not of my own design as well as the entities and the like.
I don't understand it because i didn't make the engine myself and i don't know everything about it. Plus, i'm not too serious about all this because I can't make money off of it, it's a hobby, I use it more like a piece of artwork rather than entertainment, and it's a good way to construct my worlds. :nuts:

I don't know how to say this, but i just got news that i'm moving, plus i got college right after all that. so i'm gonna have minimal time for atleast a few weeks. I was told about this a few months ago but i didn't remember. I'll let you know if i can turn anything up.

On the other hand, i can support you guys with textures, graphics, etc. It's not a complete loss. Just keep me posted on your progress.

HL1 SP has soooooo many mis aligned textures if you noclip around. Also, i've found parts that has given me health charge without an actual health charger. I think it may be debug junk, or glitch... :zonked:

yeah, that bothers me. I get high scores on IQ tests, but put a math test infront of me and i'm lucky to get 1 right. I'm barely slipping the the cracks in the system of my school's grading and credit system. sorry, i did guess on a few questions.

You want a real test, take the PAQ (Perceptibilty Acuteness Quotient) test. That would be interesting. It's a test that measures how creative and thought resourceful you are. The government makes me take one every 3 years. Later this August i'll take one. The scale that measures it is the same as the IQ test. given 170 is high and all, I scored 401 on it when i was 9. I've digressed down to about 345 over the years. I was told that if i manage to increase it above 350 this year, i'll get free college and intuitions from the government.

I looked for a PAQ test on the internet, i came up with nothing. Probably because after your done, you've hand-written about 50 pages in answers.

I know ya'guys are wondering. So i'll give you an example question.

A young girl finds a pearl in a nearby river, she reaches in and keeps it to herself and does not show anyone. However, the pearl in her pocket turns black when she talks to a boy she likes, but turns pink when a boy that likes her talks to her. When they both talk to her, the pearl changes blue. When she gets hurt while playing, the pearl turns red. One day the two boys were both talking to her and the pearl was speckled with each color. Explain what might happen in detail.

Yeah, she's in the 11th grade, and not yet 18. There's more details than this but i don't feel like ranting. She's truly screwed and we spent 2 hours on the phone trying to think of solutions. Nothing will work sensibly.

I did manage to talk more sense into her about suicide, so she'll live on for a while. I told her I have another very close friend watch over her and explained it to her. She feels better now about the whole thing but she still weary of it. The work of my friend has already influenced the scenario greatly. Unknowingly, her grandfather is letting her use her art skills to do drafting for the military, and has already looked into. I'm surprised things changed so suddenly. I'm glad I helped her out, but she's still worried about her grandfather, since i now hear that he's sick and dying, and she loves her grandfather even though he is an asshole. All of this plus the innate worrying women do.

And to BL, I write all sorts of stories. As a matter of fact, once i polish off my new story, i'll post it somewhere for people to read.
I spent 1 year and 3 months in story designing, and 2 weeks to write it :P
This story is about the character my avatar is based on, and i'm very proud of it.

As to the KINDS of writing, I like loops and unexpectabilities to spice things up, as well as detail on parts that are critical, and generalities on the less important parts. I will write anything that is crucial to the story, and I'll have to warn people before they read some of my stuff, because i will write in rather detailed sex-scenes and erotic stuff like that. I also write good suspence, action, mystery, romance, and horror.

ooooh.... interesting topic, which has probably faded out into a spam thread. But let me (topicallly) add to it. :nuts:

My worst fear isn't dying, or getting maimed into a vegetable or anything like that. My fear is something like experiencing someone completely innocent getting completely messed over in unconventional ways.

Example: I saw an anime once with a plant that was poisonous and carnivorous. It killed a pretty hot looking girl (anime, need i say : ) and the plant knocked her out with poison gas, ate her then inside the plant, she woke up just in time to get dissolved and burnt to death by digestive acids. Then, her soal was trapped inside the plant, even though she was a sweet and nice person, she was doomed to be alone in darkness. If the plant dies, her soal is lost permanently. I have rather creepy dreams about this happening to my girlfriend... Stuff like this really bothers me.

However, on a more personal account, one of my greatest friends in my history worries me. it goes down like so.

This girl at school had a crush on me for over 6 months. I wasn't single and she feels she can't compete with her. But we were great friends and even my girlfriend likes her. (almost 2 girlfriends... 0wn4ge!) However, she tells me that she is the only girl in her lineage for over 7 generations, and since the children of each generation has been male, it was a high tradition to serve in the german military. Yeah, her grandfather IS a really nasty nazi that still hates jews. But she was born in the U.S. with her parents, buther grandfather hates her, so the grandfather orders her parents to him so he can force her into the german military. She's getting her american citizenship abolished, she's gonna relearn german, and learn russian and japanese. She wanted to go to an art school in america! every dream she had of being a media artist is destroyed and she has two choices: Live the hell, or suicide. She's seriously considering suicide now, i tell her to last it out but she's so panicked by her misery. This enrages me to no end, i can't believe how evil people can be. I want to go up to her grandfather and bust him in his fuckin lips... but i can't do SHIT! This is a living fear for me. I know if she takes her own life, she'd either become enghostic, or go to hell, and she'll be lost forever. I asked a rather special friend of mine to watch over her. It was tough, but i convinced him to change his focus off of me and onto her. Besides, i have several people I know watching me anyway.

I use this mental torment as a feul for my writing and even influences the developement of some of my game design projects. I'm glad i have such great friends online, on this side, and on the otherside.

Yeah, i wish i could've done some teamwork maps, that'd be fun...
When i hit "the big time" i'll definately come back here and maybe hire some mappers... only you'll be working with software i designed an know everything about. :D I hope you guys like 3D tiles, cuz my games use that too build the world.

On another note, I'll definately contribute graphics to TWHL if it can be supported. I know there isn't a "Resources" section of the site BUT THERE SHOULD BE! (hint hint) After some classes in college, i'll be the lyrcal-grand master of textures. I'll have to do something with that when i can. :)

It's getting close to the end of the school year, which means i have to go to college and take my legacy with me. I'll have ABSOLUTLEY NO FUCKIN TIME TO DO ANY FUCKIN THING! But it'll pay off biiiIIIIiig time!

Not to bash on the mappers of this site, but while you're mapping for Half-Life and it's Mods, I'll be off getting a bachelor of science in VIDEO GAME ART AND DESIGN! gimme a hell yeah! but the thing is i'll be too busy to map. Besides, i'm gonna enjoy designing classwork stuff for school anyway.

I will definately not forget what i have learned from mapping with HL. Hoping to maybe snage a copy of HL2 and some freetime, I might reappear, or perhaps drop in to help out the newbs and say hi to my beloved friends at THWL.

Having said all this mushy bullshit, I will now announce my TRIBUTE TO TWHL MAP. It's in the works and hopefully it'll be realeased soon, as well and some other maps that need finishing. Here's a little tease for ya'.

I will release a map-pack with all the wads and artwork I've ever used in case someone finds them useful. If i ever won a compo, for the next compo, I would instantly choose to put together a wad for people to use and then see who can make the best HLDM map. (hint hint) but i'd never win with such talent and skill around.

On a more personal note. I haven't givin out much information. I've felt rather impersonal to others, so here's some info about me.

My name is Ben. I live in Cape Coral, Florida, of the USA.
I am innately a creator of many arts and forms. I am a drawing artist with many styles and mediums. I draw furry/anthro, cartoons, human figure, landscape, and science fiction. I've been an artist before I learned to walk.
Also, I write stories and Novels avidly and I enjoy writing love stories with action and comedy. The Name RIMROOK is my favorite character from my stories, so I chose that as my screen name on TWHL.
Since i was 9, I've learned to compose music on my computer using a variety of programs. I like to compose Breaks, Classical, Techno, Cantacles, ambient music, BGM for games, and music loops, and sound effects design.
Lastly, my love for video games, not only to play them, but to design them. I've been wanting to make my own video since i first seen the Super Nintendo. All this time i spent on Earth was for this goal, and looks like I did it.

I am a creator. I love to build and work with limited resources and bring something that doesn't exist to life. I love to see the mecanics of science work from rules i've set and breathe life into my art. The world is my playground.

One time (at band camp) I was mapping and I passed by a Gman model as i was looking through my map in the 3D view. I turned around and he was gone. I didn't place him there or anything...

ok, just make sure you have the following:

2 landmarks entities in each map with the same name.
Name: landmark1 (example)
2 trigger_changelevel brush entities in each map.
Name: tomap2
New map name: map2
Landmark name: landmark1
2 trigger_transition brush entities in each map.
Name: landmark1 (landmark's name)

Since you have a large map, make two small maps that are similar and connect them using a changelevel. Get that to work first then use the working test as a model for the change in your project map. If this still doesn't work, try the tutorial on it or maybe even download the example map to be used as a model.

I've had trouble with these before, and what usually causes it is the lack of the trigger_transition entity. If you get an error message, the main problem i got was getting stuck in the walls of the next map, I think it gets confused which entities to transport to the next map without the transition trigger. Always be sure you have everything labeled correctly as well.

w00t bitchez! i got a huge slab of freetime and i have nothing better to do than to finish up my maps and mods.

I know i'm getting lazy with this, but i have 10 days off to finish up 2 maps and spend some time on my mod. I've already made progress on 2L and i plan on having a demo going. and yes, you will need (that god forsaken) steam to play it.

A problem i've encountered is trying to get voices recorded. I might have to use crappy synth robot voices, but at least there will be talking. If it comes to robot voices, would anyone mind? :confused:

I'm thinkin a demo will be set after i grab some time to finish the second map of the mod.

Another note:
I also plan to strategize the mods layout to make it extremely difficult to get through. If you don't do any of the puzzles or mess them up, you won't any weapons besides the crobar and the 9mm pistol. ...and you'll maybe have to kill a barney for the pistol... So when you encounter a large enemy that requires fire power, you'll regret not doing the puzzles. :P

I know, and you're actually right. If someone could make a patch upgrade for hammer it would be nice. But, there are several third party editors that perform tasks you can't normally do in hammer. Programs like terrain generators and the like. As far as measurements, you have to look at the bottem of the window and look at the dimensions.

I haven't done anything with the new hammer editor, but i've heard and read so much about it. I wish the same things. :|

There's not that much happening for my mod right now, it's difficult to find some time to work on it. The website thing has grabbed my attention for the moment but that will soon be set and done. I only have the first map right now and i need to tinker with some HL stuff before I start.
