I started playing TFC.. Got fed up with everyone playing damned 2fort all the time (yet it is a great map.).. So, I went to the custom map only server named "Axl's TFC where 2fort is a bad thing". And sure enough, it was a bad thing.... If you ever switched the server onto 2fort, "axl" had it edited to where it would crash your computer. I had played here for a long time and wondered how he had made these, so I went to his forum.. http://www.axlstfc.com There, I had the link to download hammer and there was also a conveniant link to twhl. I tried to map and got mad at it because the "in the beginning" tuts tell you to use carve, and it doesnt explain in any way how to actually use carve.. So, I took a break, came back with fresh spirits and got to where I am today.

Me and Fearian have decided to turn his A to B HL1 compo idea into a little project. All we ask is for a short little sequence. It can be a puzzle, a trapped hallway, a tram sequence, whatever.. Just make it an interesting way to get from the entrance of your section to the end of your section. Me and fearian, once we have all of the entries we will get, will string all of these sections together into a playable map..

-- No size restrictions, yet ask you dont make it an entire map..
-- No custom wads, or models. Sounds are allowed.
-- Default HL textures only.
-- Make it have an entrance and exit of however you like, as long as they are there.

worldcraft tut's arent here, hammer is superior anyhow. btw, these tutorials are meant for any mod of half-life . For the most part. Switching to cs is just barely diffrent, yet based upon the same principles.

is the next HL1 compo going to be after this source one is over, or is twhl going to have two compos running at the same time,. I think the compo's would be popular if a new compo was released while the last one is being judged. judging takes too long >_<

I want a new computer... A HL2 Capable computer.. A 1,300 dollar computer that should be about 2,500 dollars in worth... Accept im probably not going to get it because my mom recently divorced my dad, and Ive moved with my mom, and we are financually screwed, but thats another story.

I need to know a way, if any, to make a map start with a default gravity of 0 (sv_gravity 0).. Codeless is prefered. Yes I could imitate it with func_push, but that would complicate what im needing.

no, hunt down the model in the halflife.gcf and then export it. Move that into a "custom model folder" located in your cs/models and set the path to the model. Monster apache wont do it. Annd, add an ambient_generic to get the helicopted sound, you may have to export that too.

Hl2 runs laggy on xbox, it was meant to be a "backwards compatibility" xbox 360 game, then it will run smoothly, but yes. Consoles are inferior to computers

I looked through some natural selection maps for "mapping inspiration" and, with nobody there (offline) and the ambience, you realise how depressing the mod was meant to be. It comes to me, wouldnt it make a kickass movie. Id make it start out like, an infestation started and spread from the hera station. A unique military unit comes down and lands on that outside pad thing (because I like that huge steamy door thing,) and comes in to find the cause of it and kills all of them, gruesomely,
In short,       a better aliens-vs-predator,
wouldnt that be a cool movie?

You notice every load point the tram has to accelerate again and makes the sound.. I would just make a new tram every level and make a trigger_auto start it right when you load up. Go in close to make the start just 1 unit off of the start of the tram.. 0 and you may get stuck, but the 1 unit fall shouldnt be that noticable

uh oh.. diddnt think about shooting through the swinging glass =' (, downside to that being gone, is that when the door moves, there wont be glass in the frame.

You have your frame too a normal swinging door, and then a func illusionionary as your glass... when the door opens, theres 2 env_renders. one changes the showing glass to dissapear, and the other one reveils a swinging door that slides over to the closed position, then that triggering another render to make another illusionary show and the swinging glass dissapear, as the wall behind it will be a button...
to make the glass break, you have to think "outside the door".. you make the opposite walls to the door buttons triggered by bullets, so when a bullet goes through the illusionary, it hits the wall, triggering the glass's to stay gone, the swinging glass to swing to the closed door state (get it outa the way a little), and to trigger some glass shards from env_shooters.. its not completely perfect, but I thought of it while wondering what kinda map I should make.. and, im not bothering to make it as no one door, deserves that many entities to work. tadaa :)

I want everyone, who is willing to participate, to create their own rooms and do with it what you will... Make it themed anything, blah.. Include textures, models, sounds, ect of what you put in your room.. When your finished.. Send the .rmf to backstabber_2@hotmail.com (my msn) and I will string EVERY room together in a map.. do something unique with it. Small rooms will be in the same level, bigger entries will be put in a whole diffrent .bsp. Make it whatever size you please. You can even make your own tram ride. Just make it, send it, ill do the rest.

Or, if you want to get all math-ish.... Proportions. to find an aproximate height.. Probly correct. Find an average sized person, measure his height (im gonna say hes 5,6). 72 5,6
X      5.5 feet high
72x66 (5.5 in inches) then that divided by 66 (5,6 in inches), so therefore 72 is about 66 inches.... and 72 divided by 66 is 1.09, so therefore, rounded, 1 unit is about one inch.......... Correct me if I messed up my math................... ---Deep $h!t huh..
