Sorry, I ment-"you don't take advantage of source to it's limit"- I dropped the don't!

Acording to the screeni it looks like a simple Hl1 map with extra nice lighting. But there is nothing special in it. Wheres the vegitation anyway. You need more vines hanging, small tropical plants and more ivy on the walls. But now it doesn't look like it's in the midth of a jungle.

First you need a special CD/DVD drive that can burn CDs. Then get a program like Nero start smart. The program is free but the drive isn't, they usally cost around a 100$.

Place the disc with the information you want to copy in your regular drive and the other in the burner. Open nero start smart and choose from the menu what kind of CD/DVD you'd like to create or the kind of action you'd like to preform. (image, data, music, video, copy CD...ect) In your case choose copy CD/DVD.
A new window will pop up, if you chose to create a CD then you need to choose the files you want the CD to have. If you chose copy CD, you just need to choose the drive where the CD with the data is and the drive the data will be burned to.
You may choose the speed of the burning procces. Once the burning procces started it may not be stopped, or else your CD will be ruined, unless it's a multisession DVD or a rewritable CD.(not recordable thats the regular type)

Hope this little guide will help.

I don't have source, but acording to the screenshot it looks like you take advantage of the source engine to it's limit. Take a look at other people's maps and get ideas for archtitecture. Take a look in both Hl1 maps and source maps, both may have intresting detail and archtitecture that may inspire you. I warmly advice you to check Kasperg's maps, ecpesially idol hunt. My recent map Ocean Temple might give you a few ideas, though most of the archtitecture is either Norman(arches), Gothic or Roman.(The basic layout is of a Roman balisca)

Since this is a Multiplayer map don't go mad with the detail, but remember that source is far stronger then the goldsource engine.
You should add more drawings to the walls and trims with a diffrent colour then the wall's that sorround those arched doors. :)

You can't use a diffrent size for a sky, and thats final. Just like you can't use a 100x200 texture. There are restrictions in the Hl1 engine, using a bigger sky image will require coding.

in use door as trigger? Post #217464
I believe you want to make the bear apear/disapear/reapear again, if you press three times. It wont work if you will just trigger it. You need to use an env_render, and if you want to make the procces repeatable you'll have to use this method, just use instead the two trigger_changetargets env_renders. :)

in Compiling error Post #217187
347 leafs... that shouldn't cause any problems, the map isn't really big or complex. My recent map had 11000...
I don't really know why it is frozen, does it happen in any other map compiles?
Were there any errors in the compile log before the rad procces?
Describ the map, maybe we can understand whats causing the problem if you'll give us a short discription of the map.

By the way when Barttylord asked you to look in the task manager he ment that you should check the procceses tab.(the procces is called Hlrad, If it's working and taking all the CPU that means you might need to wait more)

You should write an -estimate parameter next to all the commands, this will show you how much the compiler has left. 1000/4570 for example.

The buildvisleafs is one of the two hardest and most time and power comsumining phases of the compiling. The other is leafthread :)

in Adding Monsters to my Map Post #217139
The snarks do apear, but as you probebly know they die after a few seconds. use a monster maker to spawn them when the player gets close. Use trigger_once to trigger the monstermaker. The trigger_once is a brush based entity, it defines an area that when the player passes through it, it will activate an entity or a whole procces.
Create a brush textured with the AAAtrigger texture over the area you want the trigger to apply to. Choose the block and press Ctrl+T, write the name of the monstermaker(give it a name first) in the 'target' value. The trigger_once entity will be invisible and passible ingame. Trigger_once entities can only be activated once, Trigger_multiple can be triggered as many times as you like.

The snarks will be spawned when the player will pass through the trigger_once.

If the wad file is in the cstrike mod folder then there is no need to include it or no wad texture it. The problem is with distributing the map, every one who wants to play the map will need the wad in his mod folder. So in the final compile it is usally best to wadinclude the wads. Doing so before will just raise the filesize.

Ha pinguinboy is lucky, and everybody else is stupid! You could have entered a box filled with water with crates in it, then you would have gotten second place.

Don't you think there should be a limit as to how bad an entery can be so it could still earn a trophy? If it is just a box, why should it earn a trophy, you can give only doodle a trophy, and ignore pinguin's entery, he wasn't serious anyway. :

man how long does it take for them to get judged, besides i thought there was only like a few enteries...
I don't think the judging takes much time, all you need is to check 3 or 4 enteries. Well it didn't take me much when I got them.(the enteries for the xen compo) I already finished a day after the one I received them. And seventh already decieded when I did.
It also takes some time to publish the decision, the TWHL site's php has many flaws.

I must say I agree with ant, though I don't believe delaying the compos till TWHL3 will help at all. People just seem to be afraid to enter compos, they fear they will lose. Many forgot that it might be just for fun or practice, winning doesn't have to be the only perpose.

Decals do appear in D3D, well most off them them. They don't appear on moving object. Lighting is mostly the same as in OpenGL, exept for a few places. Take it from me it's nearly the same, I've been using it for a long time, and before I used OpenGL.

Espen180 whats the hurry? Why do you want to finish it so quickly. The mod wont be finished, lets say, untill next year- in the least. Just take a look at all the other mods around.
I don't mean Hostage Situation which took them more then two years,(around the time when I joined) and it was dead many times. The reason why it happens is that nobody concentrates on a single map, they map while mapping the maps for the mod other personal project. This way it takes longer or never gets finished. :tired:

We only had two Source entries, and I already know what one comprises of, so I'm not even going to bother taking a look at them.
You don't have to judge them seperitly, you can do like it was done in snarkpit, and if I remember correctly the source entery got to the third place and the Hl1 first. ;)

You just need to ignore the advantages of the source engine:
1. Graphics- things that are uniqe for Hl1 may not be uniqe for source. Like cool and real looking terrain, it's harder to create it in Hl1. Or a fake 3D skybox in Hl1, I hardly ever see anybody place things where you can't get to them and give a feeling that there is something beyond the tiny box of the level. In source however you can see in every respectible map a 3D skybox.

2. Originalty- Things that might be quite original in Hl1 may not be original at all in source. Like a ruined city thats not in the middle of the desert. In Hl1 it was done before but it is still a bit original, in source it's like copying the original game. Also if one is funny then it sould give it some extra points.

3. Gameplay- Nither of the games have a particular advantage in this field, it's just a matter of opinion. But if you can still know which one has gameplay or not and which is funner. If one has only action with no thinking it will be automaticly rated lower then a map with puzzles and thinking.
