I don't mean decompiling to remake a map.... I decompile it to see the stuff thats unique in that map and learn how to do somethin like that for my map... e.g in the HL1 map subtransit. When you get killed by the boat (or train, I'm not sure on that...), in the place where they show, who killed you and with which weapon it shows a train icon and your name... And that didnt appear in any maps I've seen before... :

Yea... TWHL is the site that gave me both the N00b and advanced info on all the stuff for my maps... This is one dam good site!
I'd have never started mapping normally if it wasnt for TWHL tuts, forums and so on... And now I'm a pretty cool noob mapper... :cool: :P

Decompile them.. Google for WINbsp or BSPTwoMap... When downloaded, just open the .bsp file with the decompiler... You'll have a fresh .map or .rmf file of the map! I've decompiled half of the HL1 and CS maps with Bsptwomap :P

Weeeel, I'm not 100% sure on this, BUT if you really need the rotaing effect, try making the propellers to func.trains and set them new paths, so that they could fly with the osprey. This WILL require tons of time, but you need the effect, dont you? ;)
When the propellers' paths are set, set the property "new train rot. speed" of all the propellers' path_tracks and path_corners to somethin like 200.
With that the propellers should fly with the osprey and rotate at the same time... (at least I think so...) :)

Hi everyone!
This question puzzles me really hard:
What exactly do I need to create maps for HL2? I have Hammer 3.5 and some other tools for HL1 mapping, but what tools do I need for HL2? And how do those textures in HL2 work... No more .wad... :)
Some help and links would be reeealy apreciated... :)

Yea... But if the max. distance is the problem, then how do i make the map more realistic? I mean that it has some open areas and if the max.wiew distance is dealfult, buildings will start to dissapear, and that aint cool-looking :

Oh yea and by the way, the cpus are all func_breakables, and the tables they're on are also func_breakables... Soo that shouldn't be the main problem. Thats cuz I didn't get any lag at all before i upgraded my map... And besides, there are lots of much bigger maps with bigger open areas, with more detail (cs_siege, de_cbble)... So how do such maps keep their r_speeds ok?

Hi all!
I've been improving a map of mine (de_watertower, no doubt)and the only problem in my improved version is:
R_SPEEDS! They've skyrocketed! :(
And when I mean skyrocketing, I mean skyrocketing! In some places the w_poly count goes up to 2900 - 3000. And I've counted a medium of 800-1000 w_poly count in almost all of my areas. Now I tried to tie as much objects to func_wall as possible and my map isn't skyboxed! Actually, I didn't make too much changes to the original, I just changed my light_enviroment pitch to -35 (Sot that it would drop a nice shade) and added some new things, like computers and etc. Aaand i've doubled the max wiewable distance to 8192... WhenI play the lag is TERRIBLE! :roll:
Soo any ideas on how to make the wpoly_count smaller? Please help... :zonked:

Experiment with your delay before trigger?
But I'm not sure on this, tho...
Try activating the train with a func_button, and make the "delay before reset" to the time, that ur train takes to get from loc. A to loc. B and back to A...

Or just add a pitch like -35 or somethin....
And in your map properties - check the dealfult light level. If its 0, try changing it to somethin like 20 or 50.. I'm not sure bout the dealf. light level, but it worked once for me... ;)

Hi people, I just made a new map and i wanna post it in the map vault. But the wholi .zip file size exceeds limits! It's because of the textures. The wad itself is 3MB big and when i zip, the zip file is 2.8MB big. Withthe map and other stuff it becomes 3.6MB big! How do I get over this problem? I don't want to split the wad in 2 separate ones, because i'd have to add the textures to my map all over again! What do I do? :(

How many times did you compile the map?
I had such a problem too, but it occured because i compiled my map all-over too many times. If you did the same, save your map in a different directory with a different name. Then it should compile :D

Hi everybody!
I'm making this new map and i need one special effect. The bomb target is a water tower. When the bomb blows, i want the tower to start falling and then explode and break. I've tried making the wate tower fall, using a func_door_rotating entity (according to one tutorial, which was posted here, but now is removed :confused:.. It was called "tip over pylon"). Anywho, how do i make that tower fall and break? I just can't figure t out... :zonked:
