HL1 mappers get bad reviews and generally have the shit flamed out of them for using prefabs yes?
Props in HL2 are basically fancy prefabs with physics yes? I say, if I play a map with a prop thats been used in HL2 I can flame the arse off of the mapper.

Any moron can create a detailed room and drag and drop in the details. It takes skill to make something look good from scratch
So basicly your claiming that every random noob can make a room fill it with props and it looks good? Damn, you fail. You really fail.

Who says source maps don't have complex brushwork?
That makes no sense. Just because we have props we don't have complex brushwork?

Props create interactivity (I guess that's the word..).
They have physics. The physics are a huge part of source.

Seriously, if you overuse props then your map will look quite busy and interactive, but that doesn't mean it looks and plays good.

HL2 needs just as much planning as HL1.
You can't just make a room and add some props..

HL1 and HL2 each have their charm.

Looks alright.

I really agree with srry on the lava texture.
The lava texture from DMC.wad is the best one you'll find for HL1.

Also, the lightning makes no sense.
Like Ant said, you need dark smoke.

Why is their a hole in that screenshot anyway?
That yet again, makes no sense.

Doesn't the lava pushes itself together in 1 big massa trough craters?

Half-Life 2 is just a rich kids game
ROFL. U fail. It's cheap. (Atleast here in The Netherlands..)
I also prefer the original Half-Life's storyline over HL2's. It's a lot more atmospheric, eerie, creative and inspiring.

HL1 is just a great game with great mods.
I don't really care about the outdated graphics.
HL1 still looks decent. I like the somewhat cartoony vibe.

HL2 has great SP, but the mods are lacking and HL2DM is boring. This is basicly the reason I map for HL1.
Once TF2 comes out, i'm going back to source mapping.

I originally started mapping for HL2.
I didn't really care about looks back then and I was also mapping for GMOD so I was using the I/O system quite a lot. I personally think the I/O system is easy to handle.

The multimanager system in HL1 on the other hand, is still really confusing for me, while i've been mapping for HL1 & mods quite a while now.

Making a room in Source mapping isn't so easy as you HL1 only mappers claim. So yeh we have props, but they're like prefabs. They're handy but if you overuse them they'll make things worse.

Mapping is fun?
I disagree. It gets really boring after 10-15 minutes..

Why I map then you ask?
I enjoy my compiles, I enjoy to see what i've made.
I love to play my own made map with other peoples.

HL isn't really made to be scary.
The graphics are to bad to make it look scary anyway, HL is the game of puzzles, suprise attacks from headcrabs and BOEM BOEM HEADSHOT!
They are so colorfull!
Again, you can't count that as a bad thing.
HL monsters are cool. They're original, fit it in with the theme and cmon, making them explode in yellow gibs is priceless. :)

Doom and Half-Life are different games from each other.
Doom and Quake have magic of their own and so does Half-life.
You clearly never played HL1 until reasonably recently or else you would understand the true magic that is HL.

I find it kind of sad that they actualy use the original HL1 monsters... Im SICK of that. Otherwise it was pretty much a waste of time, the maps looked pretty good but that's about it.

This mod is awesome.

I never played the original, but that didn't really matter.
The architecture, the textures, the lighting, the weapons.... just brilliant.

Nothing new in gameplay, but heh, I don't see that as a bad thing. Whole lot of humor aswell. 'Barney Calhoun - How I survived Black Mesa', that really made me laugh. ;)

I sorta noticed 2 bad things.
The grass in Nation City sounded like hard cement when you walked on it and I found another bug in Nation City. I could get behind the city. They forget to make a certain part unpassable.

I'm not much of a SP guy, so I haven't played many SP mods, but this certainly hits my top SP mods list.

Well, I downloaded and has a fast look.

It's kinda silly that you can normaly walk in zero-g till you jump. It's also kinda silly then when you have the feeling you're normaly walking (while you're actually being in zero-g) you shoot bubbles. It also makes no sense that you lose breath if you stay to long in zero-g. It also makes no sense you shoot bubbles in zero-g, it reminds me to much of well...water.

Just my thoughts.

Undertow sucks, when we have 8 people in the server and Sajo changes to undertow, only 2 will remain. Wonder how that comes..

The name is FresheD, if you want to add a 'nub' to my name, atleast make it sound. Freshnub sounds so stupid. I puke every time I read that word.

Another thing is, just because I get uninterested on my projects quite fastly doesn't mean I can't map. Read the discussion/brawl Orpheus and Kasperg had to understand. I'm mapping quite a while, not to sound arrogant, but I do think I have enough knowledge about mapping to give a decent review or atleast give my opinion.

If I review a map I give my opinion about it, that you call that whining is kinda offending. If you can't take peoples opinions and critics then why bother to map?

In the end, I think that anyone who has a written tutorial should post them everywhere.
Then what's the point of several mapping sites?

Personally, I think we just need a few good maps (from TWHL) with a low download time in the cycle. If you advertise in the shoutbox and IRC at the right time, you easyly get like 4/5 TWHL-ers on the server.
If you put crossfire on and got 3 people already in, then the server will be full in less then 5 minutes. If you then change the map to poisongarden (to take a extreme example..) everybody will leave. Why? Because nobody is waiting for a 10+ minute download. People just wanna frag! But when I change the map to like zeromancer 4 out of 5 randoms will stay to play. I guess you get my point.

Maps I would like to see in the cycle:

Crossfire
Snark_pit
Zeromancer
Ancientpride
Hexagerate
Detention
Dm_fugitive3b
Gungod.

Good solution for dm_control.

But a map like poisongarden could be removed totally, we never ever play it and the randoms can't download it because the custom shit in it.

I mean, what's the point of having a map we never play?
Removing it would only give you more space for other maps.

But heh, you figure that out Muzz, atleast remove these maps from the cycle. :)

Seriously, the mapcycle needs cleaning.
No harm ment to the makers of the following maps.

Remove poisiongarden, we never play it.
Remove the crete series, we never play those either.
Remove boot_camp, it's to big.
Remove n_mausoleum, the download from TWHL doesn't work on the server, we also never play it..
Remove pisobajov2, we never play it.
Remove lost_technology, it's way to dark and we never play it either.
Remove dm_control, everytime that map gets on, people leave. But heh, I believe Hunter and You (muzz) play it, so keep it on the server if you feel like it.
