im looking at either a Blue Storm 500W

or

an Antec TruePower II 550W

any personal recommendations? I don't want any really cheap crap - but I don't want to spend a fortune either. Around ?60-?120 is what Im looking at. Cheers

erm... no and no, but thanks anyway!

the weird 12V connector is for 12V power to the mobo, its a new feature i think in mobos - for best power usage - apparently!

i booted up my computer with new graphics card - a warning came up one screen saying I must connect the a cable to it.

would this work?

or should I just get a new PSU?

yeah, its possible, although you would have to model / find a 'clay pigeon' model. then just use the gib shooter entity in hammer 3.5, and find the location of your 'pigeon gib' just make sure you include the gib in your models folder in any mod.

i think it could also be done using the same method, but using a model_entity, - although not quite sure which,... can't remember them all! :)

check entity list here for more details. maybe combining a func_push with a model, would the propel it a good distance.

Can we think up 101 uses for the famous Salad Spinner?

Ok, so this may seem just a little bizarre, but it could be fun. TWHL looks with utter disgust

I was looking at our Salad Spinner this evening (as you do) and within three minutes had thought up around 10 possible uses. What I need is the contribution from everyone here, to use their imagination to the upmost extend, and help me finish the list.

Here's was I have so far:

1) Salad Spinner

2) Helmet (minus inner colinder)

3) Bowl

4) Clothes washing machine

5) Face mask (inner colinder only)

6) Potato bruise remover - by placing potato onto spike in centre and using knife to remove offending bruise.

7) Storage unit

8) Hamster Cage

9) Minature boat

10) Fan - by rotating 'arms' quickly while top removed

So there you have it, a good start. Now im trying to limit this to vaguely serious objects, and no doubt this sentence will be quoted within a short period of time!

Think hard - and please contribute to this unique challenge (and please label your uses if you do! ;)

in Decent Router? Post #187139
well, old stuff is definately build better than modern stuff, so you probably got another 2-3 years on it!

I would personally go for the BELKIN ADSL MODEM with WIRELESS-G

I picked up one from PCWorld for bout ?45.00, and its great, reliable, and secure. Range is excellent to, although I chose the better pci card -that is also another factor, whether to use USB or PCI. PCI is better by far imo, coz its in your case, so it ain't gonna messed about with, signal is usually better, and they are normally cheaper.

However, please answer this one question before even considering any of these routers:

ADSL or CABLE

without this info, no1 can help you...

in Decent Router? Post #187111
Whoa, thats a pretty vague question there! Can you be more specific? Wireless, how many ports, range (if wireless)

As for ???, its not worth getting a cheap one, coz all ur buying is a piece of crap. Stick to manufactures such as Netgear (although not always a good idea + crap support) Belkin (i have one of those, free support, great unit) or LinkSys (they don't exactly look the part though  !)

Also, are you ADSL or cable?

great! Who says poking things is never a good idea! Good 'ole motherboards - they just keep on going

might try and sell my old kit on ebay, mobo + cpu together, might be able to get a few bob off it.

EDIT::::

Another question:

As already stated, im using an ASUS A8N32-SLI, but it has really weird connections for the PSU. I have tried the PSU and ASUS website to no avail.

My PSU has a 20-pin mobo connector, and all the other usual crap, ie, 4-pins, 3pins,.... , etc, etc

The motherboard has a 24-pin connector, an unusual 4-pin connector - not that used by common IDE devices. Also, there is an EZPlug, but I know what that is for (SLI PCI-E configs)

So which do i use? The 20pin of my psu will go into the 24-pin mobo connector, but obviously there are spare pins. I also have the weird 4-pin connector, and on the mobo its labelled "ATX12V"

All the other is wired up OK, i think! ;) Just may need to swap some poles for the reset and LEDS, etc.

thanks a bunch

All left now is to change screen - another ?400 investment!

HAH! 250W? Ok, cheers guys. yeah, im not using an SLI setup, just a X850XT PE. I know they're not that expensive (PSUs that is) but in my mobo manual, it said for Athlon 3000+ onwards, you should have a 450+ watt PSU.

...and yeah - "wtf, alex read the manual?" :D

I know this may not be the best place to ask... i just ain't member of anywhere else.... yet! ;)

At the moment, I have a 400W PSU, and it ran my old Sempron 2600+ just fine, along with usual AGP ATI, 3pci's, etc, etc.

However, Ive just upgraded major to X2 4400+ and A8N32-SLI mobo, not yet put together, and just wondering if you think my PSU will handle it? It is worth trying, or getting a new one.

I do have another PSU, 300W, so I was also thinking also using both, although a bit more messy!!

Thanks for your feedback!

It will be the same as it was for Columbus - he left in search of spices, never dreaming of making the discovery of oil, - a totally new concept that would revolutionise the world. It didn't happen immediately, but if he had not gone there, who knows how long it would have set the human race back. Ok, so it would have given us another 50+ years of oil, but who's counting!

I think this will be the case for the pioneers of space exploration - something phenomal will be discovered that was never intended.
