If only there was a program that all of our games were stored in, and we could like, add each other as friends in that program, or join some sort of TWHL group in said program. Then we could organize such an event through that group. If this hypothetical program had a list of free-to-play games, that'd be even better. We could even have two different, time-zone specific events in order to accommodate everyone since we live on different parts of the planet and have jobs 'n shit.

A man can dream.

Before WarZ launched, Rocket and the DayZ team were unsure about it. They didn't know if it would be good or bad, they only knew it was going to release first. He said himself, they could make a better game. If the better game was released first, that would pretty much be that.

The best part about this whole WarZ debacle is that now the DayZ team can take their time and release the best product that they can. We all already know it's not going to make it's original date of release before 2013. If we have to wait a couple more months for a proper, polished release, then GREAT.

Azin don't get mixed impressions about the game, I've tried it, it's absolutely horrid. I went into it open minded, thinking it could tide me over until DayZ standalone. Big mistake.

Oh, and not only has it been removed from Steam, Valve will refund anyone that had bought it before it was removed. I think you just need to ask support.

It's so worth it. I went to buy it for my bro for Christmas, turns out the console version is $60 instead of $50 like the PC version. Apparently a single CD costs $10. Still bought it.

Also, still playing BF3. If you watch a single frag video, let it be this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3BiAFceV0fk

It's all about the story.

Ever seen the film American History X? This film is especially powerful to me, from a story-telling perspective, because of one particular scene. The main characters are neo-nazis and white supremacists, but much of the film is spent showing the connection that the older and younger brother have with eachother, and their friends as well. Their father was a racist, and he raised them to be racists of course, but now that he's gone they just have eachother.

A bit into the film, a basketball game takes place between the group of white supremacists and a group of black guys roughly the same age, and who are also clearly friends. The winner of the game will get rights to the court. The game is tense, and when it was over, and the skin-heads won(a group I normally would instantly hate, because racists are scum) I was excited. I realized I was rooting for them to win the game the whole time, not because I like white supremacists, but because by that point I had gotten to know the characters and saw them as human. Then, at the end of the film, the hardship and climax has happened and the story completes.

Farcry 3 fucked this up completely. The hardship happens after a 3 minute video of some dumb kids partying.

Quality of story telling is everything.

A fine game, but the protagonist and his stupid friends are impossible to relate to, or care about.

A bunch of loud and obnoxious Americans are taken hostage? /Care
It's nothing to do with their nationality, it's because the "incident" happens before you even start playing. You basically watch a 3 minute video of people you don't know having fun and then you are told they are kidnapped. When the game actually starts you are already in a cage. I know nothing whatsoever about the characters and have no connection or feelings for them. I might as well be rescuing strangers like on a cs_map. Even that's more engaging though because hostages actually would be strangers.

At least I'm not being forced to rescue some dirty, communist, drunkard Europeans. (c wut i did thur)

Urby any tips on recording/uploading? My first 19 seconds of test-recording whilst dicking around in BF3 took a little over 2 hours to upload. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzF0BGFHbVc

That seems like an EXTREMELY long time, considering my teammates upload videos MUCH longer, MUCH faster than that. Example from Daskro http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDA1UaLbMEE&feature=g-user-u

Wow what happened at A? Someone got stabbed fifty times and then their body dragged in a circle and X shape around the pavement? Then later someone else parked a cop car, a regular car, and a forklift on top the blood not giving a shit about the 20 gallons of blood? Or all those people didn't notice?

But in all seriousness, this is probably one of the better looking things you've posted, so you're improving as usual which is good. Probably up to par with my mapping at this point, lol(ignoring that ridiculously large red X on the ground). Keep it up kid.

I checked it out. It's Steam, designed for your TV, using your controller, any USB controller. AKA any current-gen console, aftermarket console, or PC controller on the market right now. Great idea as far as I'm concerned.

My main monitor is a TV and I've got a controller plugged into my PC so it wasn't much of a change from Skyrim or racing games. I can see it being very useful to other people though. And all fully controller supporting games are on sale for the launch of it? Good deal for the people who will use it.

All-in-all I approve.

Far Cry 3.

It's fucking good.

[edit] Maybe I should elaborate.

I had just bought a bow and quiver of 5 arrows. Since I've just started the game a few hours ago, this bow replaces my only existing weapon slot out of a possible four. I decided to walk rather than drive or fast travel to my next objective, probably because I desired to try the bow out. I'm walking through dense foliage and come to a clearing when I hear someone way ahead yell "Shit! Dogs!"

Rabid dogs are a problem on the islands. I sprint to a very large rock in the sand and duck down. Automatic gunfire erupts ahead of me. I hear at least two men yelling. More gunfire. After a few seconds, silence.

I peek around the rock to see one man with an AK-47 walking slowly towards his two friend's bodies in the sand and a few rabid dog corpses strewn about. I duck back behind the rock, draw my bow tight, peek out and put an arrow through the last mans head. I walk up, retrieve my arrow, find they belong to the terrorist faction who kidnapped my friends and I don't feel bad. I loot them, decide not to skin the rabid dogs, and move on back into the jungle.

4 minutes later I am attacked by a tiger that I didn't see. I hit him with one arrow, he pounces on me and grabs my arm, I slash him with my machete with right arm as his jaws are clenched on my left, he lets go and staggers back, and I get up. I draw and fire an arrow as fast as I can. It misses. He pounces again, mauling me, and goes for my throat.

Yeah. Sounds like a third party was watching your entire little encounter unfold from a distance. After the two vehicles(cop cars aren't in the game, so, must've been two blue sedans) left, they sprung on the opportunity which presented itself(shooting you for your gear).

Shit luck, but look on the bright side, you were a fresh spawn (if you weren't, what in the living hell were you doing on the coast) so you didn't really lose anything. Imagine if you were 30 hours in.

It's not for everyone. Rocket built a game that he wanted to play, (kinda like Notch did, rocket just has more niche tastes) he's in the military and he LOVES wilderness survival. The zombies were actually added after the fact, a suggestion by his friends, to spice up the survival gameplay. The game is essentially a social experiment. Turns out that like 95% of videogamers are complete sadistic assholes. The 5% that aren't are what makes DayZ fun for me. Without those murderous assholes, finding friendly survivors wouldn't be nearly as exciting.

Offering someone who's about to die of thirst one of the two cans of soda in my backpack genuinely makes me feel good about myself, considering my other option, and so few games can do that. Maybe that guy is ten or twenty hours into his character. Maybe he's fifty hours in. Imagine how good he feels after being saved when I could've just put a bullet in his head and taken his gear, causing him to start all over? And when someone does the same for me, I feel just as great. Really no other game I've played feels the same.

To make the most out of the enjoyment, playing in a group is best. There's safety in numbers. If you're alone and you encounter a douchebag with a gun, you're probably going to be shot in the face for a can of beans. If that same douchebag encounters you and three of your friends, he's going to be begging you to you to allow him to pass unharmed.

I hope that's sufficient explanation!

On the Star Wars theme, Battlefield 1942 is freeware now, idk if it will be permanantly, but it is currently. I hear there's a SICK star wars mod for it.

That could be a free alternative? It's much easier to get a whole community together if it doesn't involve spending cash, for our bros on budgets.

I think it's called Battlefield: Galactic Conquest and here is a hilariously small screenshot:

My friends and I still play it occasionally, one of the better co-op games out there IMO. Much more variety than the original.

I don't know what the pub scene is like, pub L4D can be... frustrating at times, lol.

[edit] pretty much what Potatis said. It's a great game to have in your pocket for the odd time your friends want to play something. Friends + voicechat are pretty much obligatory for that game.

[double edit] I just bought Arkham City because I've heard it's very good and it was 75% off. Anyone know if the story directly continues from Arkham Asylum? I've got enough change leftover to get it if I need to. Can I just start on the second game without missing out on much story?

Not until standalone, which will use both VAC and in-engine anti-hack measures (of which arma 2 has none whatsoever).

Until then, play on a private hive. Most have whitelists to get on, and hackers are perma-banned on first offense by real living human moderaters. That's what I'd be doing if I still played, but I'm waiting for the standalone.

Either scan the server browser for the word private and visit some sites you see, or check out http://www.reddit.com/r/DayZServers, where server owners make craigslist-style posts looking for more players. (minus the kinky sex stuff)

I just couldn't get into it. Tried it first on 360 when it came out, found it boring. Years later, bought the PC version because I figured it would at least be full of eye-candy, being a cry-engine game that came out after Crysis... big mistake. On max settings it looked like garbage compared to max settings Crysis, and surprise surprise, I still found it boring.

I guess everyone's tastes are different though. I'll probably give 3 a shot once it's on sale on Steam, considering the good reviews some of you are giving the series. Maybe impressive visuals will allow me to remain interested for five-ten minutes longer per mission and get farther in the game.

Not trying to persuade you to buy it, but comparing it to bf3 is like comparing apples to oranges IMHO. Both are modern-set fps, and both fruit are fruit. It is really nothing like battlefield. Bf3 is objectively better in my opinion.

But... butt... fire! BUTT-FIRE!

[edit for relevance]

Now playing Medal of Honor: Warfighter.

TL;DR much, much, much better than Medal of Honor 2010

Got it for half off because I'm Battlefield 3 premium, figured why not, it's actually really fun once you get into it. It will take you 2 hours to get used to the mouse acceleration, weapons handling, buddy system, ect. and you will die a shit-ton.

Won't say anything about the campaign, because I only did the first 2 missions, although general consensus is that it's much better than BF3's. That's like saying it's better than terrible though, so take that as it is.

Instead of squads of 4 like in BF3 you are in pairs. Buddies can spawn on eachother, and heal eachother by holding down E on your bro for about one second. Once the bar fills you have healed him and refilled his ammo. Pretty cool mechanic, doesn't take long, but long enough to prevent abuse of it. Weapon handling is also very different from BF3. There is more vertical recoil to the weapons in addition to the spread, a welcome change in my opinion. It's getting compared to CoD a lot, but IMO it's more of a middle-ground between CoD and BF3.

There are 72(!!!) soldiers (essentially classes, compared to 4 in BF3 and 5+5 custom in CoD) and the weapon customization is pretty deep. Guns have stats and parts change those stats, everything from barrels to stocks to receivers can be unlocked and swapped out and affect the weapons statistics.

It also has "seasons" similar to some strategy games, where players are divided by nation and nations are ranked. Nothing game changing, obviously large nations like the US and Russia are at an advantage, but it's always fun to root for the home team.

Downsides include a range of glitches and bugs, so if those things annoy you, i'd wait a while for some patches to roll out.

All in all I would only recommend this to people who either enjoyed the previous MoH, enjoyed both CoD4 and BF3, are BF3 premium and will only have to pay $30 for a distraction until the new expansion launches, or people who enjoy objective-based modern-themed multiplayer FPS a whole bunch.

Screenie of the classes, and the few I unlocked after about 2 hours of playing.
