Running Steam half-life through hl.exe will give you that error.
A possible workaround is shell-executing

Note to everyone mapping for Flat-Life
If you're having problems with ladders and/or changelevels please leave them as they are. They will work in RC3 which will be out today or tommorow!

That probably means that you're missing some secondary dll.

Make sure that devil.dll, cg.dll and cgGL.dll are present in your Half-Life directory and that fmod.dll is present in the hl2d directory.

Could be because the new effects utilize shaders and stuff that your graphics might not support. If your graphics card is ooold, that's probably the case.

Damn, I fail. devil.dll should be in the Half-Life dir, not the hl2d one. Just move it if you already downloaded it.

Felix the third, please try this too so I'll see if Shader Water works in WON.

Now, I hope you are all familiar with Flat-Life

A now (I think) fully functional mod that lacks a very important thing: the maps! Now to get people to make more maps, I was thinking about holding a Flat-Life mapping competition.

However, I can not offer much in the terms of prices except THE HONOR and inclusion of the map in Flat-Life 1.0. But still, a small compo for fun now when there's no official one.

EDIT:

Flat-Life Mapping Competition!

For this competetion, make ANY kind of map for the mod Flat-Life! Platform, Topdown or both, big or small, yellow or purple! Let your creativity flow!

Entries will be judged by me, ChickenFist and will be judged on gameplay, appearance and general goodness. The competition deadline is 31th January 2008.

The latest Flat-Life version can be downloaded here, mapping guides, fgd and manual included!

There will be one Gold, Silver and Bronze position.

Prizes:
  • Your map will be included in Flat-Life 1.0 final.
  • You will get the honor and an awesome award picture ;)
  • There MIGHT be another mystery price as well...
Rules:
  • The map must be in on or before the 31th January 2008. Submissions turned in slightly late will still be counted, however.
  • The map must include all required resources, and be able to run with Steam HL.
Submissions should be sent to chickenfist [at] gmail [dot] com or posted in the vault.

(Also, ehm, if you find any bugs please tell me and I'll fix them asap. I don't like bugs)

Yeah, there's absolutely no reason what so ever to remake a fairly new game on an age old engine. Remakes usually improves the gameplay experience, not the other way around.

Just a friendly suggestion. You're just wasting your time.

i tried that, and i cannot see it in hammer. do i need to add anything to my .fgd config for it to work?

Your game configuration is wrong.
models/props/bathroom_toilet.mdl is the correct way of doing it, doesn't show up in Hammer because, well, your configuration is wrong.

Check all paths.

I use the latest version of studiomdl, no gui's or anything.

Anyway, doesn't the console say anything?
If you make a scripted_sequence with your model to make it wall, and it doesn't move it should give some clue. If it doesn't it's really weird :P

Well, as it's togglable the performance hit shouldn't be that big of a problem. Players who lags can simply turn the effect off.

There is, however, a problem with backwards compability.

It should work normally with maps made using the RC2 fgd.
Not that there is any atm, but yeah...

Here's a tutorial on how to implement MechMod's shaderwater in a Spirit of Half-Life 1.5a4 based mod, and everything else you need.

There's also a precompiled version if you're to lazy to do it yourself.

All credits go to Jason "ssjason123" Matson for the water code itself, and me for porting it to Spirit and writing the tutorial :D

The RC1 to RC2 test update is here, just to test shader water compability.
Plenty bugfixes and shader waters are the main features.

cg_water cvar toggles shader water, please let me know if it works. Please :P
