Cynical people who don't fail at making sarcastic remarks in real-life will be the ones who will excel at being trolls online. It just happens that they have this engine inside them which needs food. That engine dies the moment no idiots are near.

2muchvideogames gave a bad example of trolls: those are complete morons that need education.
I agree with what Stojke said.

Btw, there are also patent-trolls, which grow exponentially on the ladder of assholeness.

Cloud Atlas. A daring book transposed in a hard to watch, but inspiring and beautiful movie. I am disgusted by the dystopian future representation, but that's because I think it's natural to fear such scenarios.
It's hard to describe the film. This is the IMDB description:
An exploration of how the actions of individual lives impact one another in the past, present and future, as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero, and an act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution.
That is the main subject of the movie, but the melange of stories it presents creates an intricate connection between the past, present and future. It's an exploration of love, justice, humanity, moral values and fate.

As a side note, I much prefer the natural landscapes from the past than the polluted, fully artificial city. Altohugh, again, such a preference might be influenced by our present mindset.

You interpreted ad litteram a word from an allegory( albeit not a good one, but I tried to make an example).

The idea is that, subjectively, you did a good thing and this community appreciates that you gave an impulse to Penguinboy who will work harder on the site security.
The objective truth is that, however good this impulse was, it is still unethical. Perhaps other webmasters would have had a negative reaction.

I am not against you, I agree that this is a good thing. I am pointing things out.

There was once a beautiful street with lime trees. Here there was a nice looking house, modern architecture and all. A guy passed near the house, and suddenly he became curious about this mysterious house he had never seen. He used his lock-picking skill to test the door, and magically, the door opened. He decided it would be polite to sit on the couch and wait for the family to come home and brief them about their defective door.
So the family came and was surprised to see their door opened. The father run in to the house. The smiling man who was sitting on the couch explained the situation. The whole family was happy that now they obtained some information on how to get a stronger door.
The guy had become a hero on the street.
(the guy also broke some vases out of accident, but it was omitted to make the story more beautiful)

Since I have moved to the college dorm, for some months now, my sleeping pattern has been noticeably affected.
I've started experiencing weird dreams, to the point where I was terrified of going to bed. I've calmed down lately. One last dream I recall was with a screaming cat, although this is not necessarily scary. Sometimes I have uplifting dreams that enhance my mood, but the fact is that I started to dream a lot more than before.

I have colleagues that speak during sleep. It's bizarre because sometimes it's just... mumbles, you can't understand anything. They told me even I spoke once, although it seems I asked a math question(lol).

One weird thing happened to me once though. I knew all of my roommates would go to college the next day morning earlier than me, so when I got up I looked around and saw nobody in the room. I went to the bathroom, and when I entered the room I started packing. I suddenly hear a worried voice: "What's the time? :O". I instantly turn my head towards my colleague which had a terrified face with red eyes. I almost fucking screamed, I can not explain to you the feeling of horror I experienced. I knew I looked at his bed and saw nothing. Was he so well covered with the blanket? Was I not attentive? I questioned my sanity for the rest of the day... although the situation had a logical explanation.

I think it has to do with emotional stress and sleep deprivation. I get little time to sleep, and the internet is wasting my night time. I can't wait for weekends to recover...

[spoiler alert]
I haven't actually watched this yet, don't know if I'm finishing it tonight, but I had to pause and laugh hard.

I am watching A matter of life and death(Stairway to heaven(1946), with David Niven.

I just have to quote the guy who is responsible for "killing people"( or taking them to heaven, or something):
-And what should happen to a man who jumps from his aircraft without his parachute?
-How do you know?
-But it is I who I'm killing you my friend. It is I! Your time was up! But I missed you, because of your ridiculous English climate!
Damn, I am in tears. The Brits should use this section of the film for their new anti-immigration campaign. :walter:
On another note, I am simply astonished that I'm watching a 40' film in color! I know my parents have watched another film with David Niven, "Towers of Navarone", and I'm planning on watching that after the exams.
Do you guys know of any good classics that combine fine humor with a wonderful story? When watching such a film it seems that all modern films are all about special effects.

[EDIT] Seen the whole movie. With some flaws, but... a very good movie.

I think the Looper ending caught me by surprise. When he shot himself and the older copy also disappeared reminded me about reading in some astronomy book about spontaneous particles creation: when a particle and antiparticle appear and combine to instantly disappear. I don't know if this had to do anything with the energy of the void, but I know it's the basis for Hawking radiation.

Can you imagine this happening in real life? Spontaneous events that happen in fractions of a second that occur just to maintain the equilibrium of good nature?

I know. I escalated quickly.

Pride and Prejudice

This is one of the finest movies I've seen in a while. What I love about these movies is their civilization inspiring feel. The romance is ingeniously combined with classic laughable moments. Films like these prove that cinematography can also be a source of culture, not just sensational explosions and action.
The big surprise came after I watched the films. Turns out I had the book in my library. I wonder if I should read it after watching the film :\ .

In the past I've used Filefront for uploading maps for TWHL, but since they became gamefront I haven't had the need of uploading anymore because most of my maps were small(lazy mapper, I am!). So I haven't visited it for more than half a year, but now I can safely assume I will never use it again.

It was a really sad film about passion and pure, innocent love. I think there are also other hidden aspects in this movie with roots to real life society.

The lesser-spotted good natured human being

Batman

Well, it's quite rare to spot one of them these days because most of us are either involved in activities that imply personal interests, bragging, being ruled by instincts of self-preservation, either are simply ignorant(which apparently is "awesome").
People who deliberately make things out of love for others, or feeling good doing so, are quite rare. They go by unnoticed, which is sad. They are the people who still make humankind look... human.

For me, it's the fact that it's immersive and has gameplay that blends well with the storyline. It's also unique in the sense that you don't unload hundreds of bullets from your gun, you actually have to think this well.
Also, I really like the architecture of the environments.
It really is a powerful FPS, while successfully lacking any of the overwhelming feelings of some FPS give you these days: you play a game like Metro 2033 for the pleasure of playing it, not for improving your mad skillz.

Well, it's been a while since I last watched The Matrix, and I acnowledge that it's a classic movie. Nowadays such a shootout scene would probably seen rather cheesy, but in the context of 90' movies this was regarded as professional and simply cool.

Science doesn't break down, it just hasn't covered it yet. We only quite recently started understanding how the mind works, and we are making good progress. And also, just because science can't explain it (for now or never) then that doesn't mean that you can fill in the blanks with whatever you want.
Madcow, you haven't finished my sentence:
But science breaks down when it tries to understand HOW we do maths in our head, because that part of the science that tries to do that is just another human tool that is poorly developed at the moment.
You just said what I said :P.

The fact about science is that for me it seems cold without... call it spirituality or whatever you want it, but we just accumulate knowledge and accumulate knowledge... and then what?

On a slightly unrelated topic,
For me, the current evolution of the gaming market leads to an inevitable near future where a lot of immersions devices will be available. This will probably go hand in hand with neuroscience progress, and at some point we will simply be able to "switch" to a virtual world. Will we become living vegetables then?
I don't want to lie, I can't wait to try such immersion devices, but I'm bothered by the question if this is right or wrong.

I abide by Occam's razor.
Which is just another human rule. I believe in fairness. Eclecticism.

[EDIT] Ok, I've watched it until 20:00, and he started talking about chakras. This is a new topic for me, although I've heard about this before.
Now this is why I talked about fairness. Some people might call this bullshit, but if you analyze it a bit, it might not be.

I would like to talk so much on this subject, but I know that I can say wrong things and perhaps make other people furious.

I think that those chakras are a spiritual expression for lots of factors that science can't individually treat. It's the same for thinking: we can do maths. But science breaks down when it tries to understand HOW we do maths in our head, because that part of the science that tries to do that is just another human tool that is poorly developed at the moment. I also don't want to rule out the actual existence of a spiritual world, but being christian(no, I don't really like organized religion) I have different opinions.
Before we would start sharing religious opinions or even definite answers, there needs to be a collective acceptance that this subject can be debated without generating negative emotions.
You speak as though you undoubtedly know truths.
Zeeba-G, I learned that you can't tell this to a person who acts like that. Although they don't realize, they put quite a bit of emotion in what they say.
