No offence but, please keep it PC only.
Striker get a laptop.
Why do you even care as long as Penguinboy is anyway focused on the Windows version? I do have a laptop rufee, but I don't carry it with me everywhere. Even if I do on commutes, it's way easier to just get on the tablet. For me, the laptop is just a desktop replacement.
Tablets are for consuming media, not creating it.
I object. Tablets, as computers and... hammers, are tools. It's a matter of how you use them, if you can efficiently. Tablets are for consuming media is marketing. Of course, more or less this is true. I never edited a document on a tablet. But it matters that I can do it if there's an urgency.

Seems like Xamarin has a free version but it doesn't let you use third-party libraries. This means I can't port Sledge to Android without money.

Oh well, it was a sweet thought...

Perhaps this has been asked before, but is it possible to get a port for Android? I carry my tablet all the time, and a small mouse isn't such a burden to carry either. Would really be awesome to get shit done on the commute.

The transformation looks amazing. It shows a lot of progress in your understanding of lighting :P.

Btw, is it possible somehow to use something similar to smoothing groups in goldsource?

What is the oldest movie you watched that still feels modern/contemporary?

For me, it's 2001: A space odyssey.

A remake would probably be easier. If it's a new map limits should be imposed - because of my chronic procrastination it took me months to complete dm_researchvessel. I doubt anybody completes a deathmatch map so fast unless it's small.

But with remakes there's one problem. People, imo, are not as familiar with many hl maps as they are with cs maps. I only know very well 2 or 3 maps.
Much more interesting would be for everyone to create another version of the same map - although this reduces variety.

Ok, whenever we're ready to play my map, I hope it will be late. Something like 10 P.M. (GMT 0) - that's 12 pm for me. Right today is 1st of May, which is a holiday here, which means lots of food, beer and music.
Thank you!

There is a serious problem with Sledge which makes using clipping and vertex manipulation essentially unusable. I've started using it more over the course of the last weeks, while completing dm_researchvessel and now working on a simple little map.
It makes random duplicates of the solids clipped or vertex manipulated. Attempting to delete or repair this crashes Sledge.

Why I am using Sledge? Because Hammer, although works perfectly, has this stupid problem where I can't select a face or brush only if I'm miles away from it. I don't know what causes this.

*bug: when changing an info_player_start to a light, the light still has the player model in 3D view.

[EDIT]

I could not send the error report on this next one. I was just trying to apply a texture when the error report started spamming windows. I had to use the Task Manager to kill it.

Apparently it's "hard coded" in the engine. So the only way is to cut down on entities. Well this sucks... I'm going to implement some hint brushes where it's possible.

Too many entities visible in the packet list
I'm gonna grow gray hair for this. I launched an unprecedented full scale optimization operation on my GoldSource map. Never before have I pursued each minor detail...

Well, you get the idea. Isn't func_detail(I'm using VHLT) supposed to reduce the entity numbers? My map is a bit too detailed for a goldsrc outside map, and it suffers from this thing. I just don't know what to do anymore.

[EDIT] I found out that the the limits of total entities in-game is 2048. This is absolutely stupid for our times, because it takes only 0.5Mb of space. This is so 1998!

- Render sprites in the 3D view. Fixes #106.
Totally cool!
- Basic .obj format support
This means I can import models done in... Blender, for example? And use them as world geometry?

One suggestion: is it possible to implement a feature where the textures in the editor associated with entities like func_wall where I set the render mode to texture can show their transparency in the editor too?

There's going to be a bit of a problem with this map of mine, gameplaywise:

I admit that the wpoly is not so exaggerated in reality in the walking zones, what's seen in the screenshot is a combination of default_fov set to 120 and the spot involved, which is inaccessible in practice. But the sad fact is that I have an average of about 4000 wpoly.

The map runs fine on my desktop machine (DualCore E6500, AMD HD4850, 1920x1080px), but I doubt this is playable on older computers(not that this is not old, it's 2014, we're in the future baby!).

I don't know even why I'm continuing this, I guess I just want it finished. I had the idea of making a ship map long time ago, maybe 2 or 3 years ago. I abandoned the idea of realism since :D.

The inside of the ship is explorable, but the focus is on the outside. I also have some stupid contraptions around there, you know me... never map without a trap! Well, not trap.. but it rhymes :P.

Suggestions?

P.S. I am actually clueless as to how I should place weapons, ammo, healthkits and whatnot...

And while you're at it, why not include auto-art features that will transform the screenshot in different beautiful art styles like expressionism(look at this poetic landscape!), cubism(because everything starts with a cube), hyper-realism( instantly enhances your map, thereby rendering any future Source engine useless), and impressionism(for the adventurous mapper that understands all is but light).

Oh, remember that auto-mapping utility, that ancient crap software that was actually awesome?

How about a sprite brush or model brush that helps us instantly make forests and grassy landscapes?

How about an integrated texture super tool that helps you download from popular sources like cgtextures, crop, stitch, blend the seams and create on the fly map textures? (don't forget about bump maps, hehe!)

Heh, but did somebody think of a model exporter like propper integrated in the thing?

An extremely useful tool would be an integrated particle editor that would help easily sculpt the particle in the landscape created.

A performance prediction could be useful, some sort of feedback without compiling the map that can help you optimize the map rendering speeds.

I think I might went a bit overboard here.

I can tell you Captain terror that the current HL1 open-space map I'm working at compiles in about 20 minutes on my desktop E6500 and about 3 minutes on my i7-3610QM laptop. Probably i7-3770 is way faster than that. It's beacause VHLT is optimized for multi-core I guess.

This should be a flexible functionality like the track thread option. By that I mean we can either be notified by email, or Notifications or the PM inbox( in which case, create a separate category in the PM inbox just for notifications).

Also, please consider reading again one of my old suggestions about the 3 month thread lock: linky. Increase that to 6 months.

It does happen on every map. It's like those zig-zaggy lines that can be seen when walls meet exacerbate when seen from a distance.

Yes it seems like the faces overlap but no, the texture that is protruding from the back is actually from the opposing face of the solid.

I can switch the renderer, but I only have the option to switch to solid texturing and wireframe. Who maps in that mode? :P
