Ha! That's a funny mod, I had never seen it.

I didn't say modpack because I generally don't like them much. The problem is they have too many mods and I very often find myself overwhelmed by the number of changes and sometimes the process to craft something is so complicated I don't even know where to start (or even what to use as a crafting table, if the mods add their own means of crafting). Besides that, I have an oldish computer and mod packs with too many mods kill my fps fast (as happened the last time someone suggested playing with a mod pack).

Those are the reasons I prefer modest setups :P

That. You'd have to use the Forge server instead of Bukkit or Spigot or whatever you're using right now (for server-side mod support) and the Forge-modded client for the client side of things.

That also means that clients can only connect to a server if they have the same mods, and therefore vanilla clients are incompatible. At least since 1.8 this process has been streamlined and is not as fidgety as it was before.

If people like the idea and are willing to try it, I can write up how to get it right with little hassle.

I'm more interested in having mods.

In case anyone happened to be interested in modded gameplay, I'd personally suggest the following not-terribly-intrusive mods:
- Project Red: A successor to Red Power (discontinued since 1.4.7). Greatly simplifies redstone circuits adding single-block logic gates, redstone cables that can run on walls, ceilings, etc. (and can be separated by colour) and various coloured lighting fixtures.
- Computercraft: Adds programmable computers that can interface with redstone signals (i.e use redstone as input or output, including cables from the mod above) and can be programmed using Lua (an easy to learn language).
- Railcraft: Fantastic mod for multiplayer, although more complex than the above. Expands on the concept of minecarts and adds things like proper switchable junctions and linking between carts to create trains. Includes locomotives (forget that silly useless furnace minecart that makes no sense) to pull said trains and various new carts (liquid tank cart, workbench cart, track relayer, tunnel bore). New types of tracks (cheap wooden, reinforced, high-speed, etc.) and special utility tracks (directional, gated, station, etc.), automatic cart loaders/unloaders. There's also signalling which is fantastic for organising all the above in games with more than 1 player.

Not all of these have been released for the latest version of Minecraft, however.

So after losing all my inventory for a second time after I died in the Nether, I must ask: Do you have to enable it separately for the Nether?

Nice!

Hey I know that house.

Today I lost the best bow ever in the stupidest way possible. I had a Power III + Unbreaking + Mending bow kindly gifted by Tetsu0. I was exploring a cave and just around a tight bend I came to be face to face with a creeper. I mashed the keyboard to step back but in the mayhem I managed to select the bow in the hotbar and then press Q. The bow was dropped right in front of the creeper as it was blowing up so the item disappeared completely. Rest in peace, enchanted bow.

There's a aombie spawner near your place stu, it's just jutting out of the bottom of a mountain.
Saw it! I have some small adjustments for it planned.

I'm thinking there may be a bug in 1.9 where spawners are generated incomplete or something.

Maybe of the roof.

Why do I keep finding PIG spawners in dungeons with empty loot chests? I've found at least two in unexplored areas so I'm pretty sure they haven't been tampered with.

Use the minimum light level property instead. It accepts values from 0 to 1, so experiment with values like 0.5, 0.8, etc. and see how it looks the best.

in is this as bad as the poster says Post #328964
It's either this or having a single central server farm owned by Valve, and we all know how that goes after a few years, as has been demonstrated by plenty of game companies discontinuing a multiplayer service and leaving everyone out.

It's too much asking for some people out there but if you use your judgement and common sense you should be alright.

in Problem with skybox Post #328820
Bruce, the problem at hand is that you'd be seeing the inside-out brushes from elsewhere in the map.

Of course, this implies a deeper problem than that. Why are you seeing brushes from behind at all? You would never see something like this in real life; Architecture is never like that because the real world's geometry would otherwise be impossible. So if you have a case like the one in your screenshot, it would be a case of an incomplete map where the things you should be seeing through the windows (i.e the other side of the building/wall) are missing. So don't be lazy and map the place properly, either make a proper construction there or eliminate the windows, because as it is, it doesn't make sense. :)

You'll see how things start looking so much more natural when you add things that are not necessarily the level geometry directly relevant to the spaces you are navigating. Places you can't really access but still can see parts of such as having a patio or a garden there, or distant buildings behind the directly visible buildings add a lot of depth to a map. (see Altdel by Archie for example)

You don't always want help when posting. But while technically "GoldSource discussion" would be more appropriate, it's also redundant. What is a forum for other than discussing things? So at least from a philosophical point of view, the areas should simply be named "GoldSource", "Source", "General", "Meta", and maybe "Other"; although this might be a bit too minimalist for some people's tastes.

More sorting and filtering options. Such as by uploader
Maybe, might be difficult to get a user filter in, but I'll see what I can do
There already is a filter by user in each user's profile, you'd just have to copy and paste that, right?

I had a few spare minutes and made a mock map vault layout.

There's only eight maps because this was hand-made. And don't fret over the stats, the numbers are made up.
