So since someone decided to screw with the poll, there is really not telling exactly how many unique votes the games got relative to each other. A few games do stand out, but you can obviously figure that out on your own.

I'm out of this event.

EDIT: Sorry, I think I confused you with cstriker? :S

It's not a single game that wins. I guess it will be something like any game with more than three votes or so will be played, I don't know though, but it's definitely not just CS:GO - I won't buy that either.

You know, you could have just said that without it being extremely offensive and arrogant. Hey, how about you said it a week ago or when I was suggesting the vote, then it might still have been relevant too?

And besides the fact that you didn't even bother to vote, your alternative doesn't offer any features much different from the thread you are currently in which is dedicated to discussing the event. So how about we do just that, right here - where the community actually is?

Here is the poll for dates and time for the TWHL X-Mas Special

It's definitely not the best way to do this, but this is as sophisticated it gets without it being a poll that is outputted as HTML:

http://www.easypolls.net/poll.html?p=50d3bc51e4b09e94ffe677e2

The intervals, in GMT, are morning - afternoon - evening/night.
This Saturday morning is left out as voting will still be going on by then.

I have tried to make the intervals make the most sense, although I know this won't be the case for people in different time zones.

The first week of January is included as I figured it would be better to have the x-mas special later than not at all.

Don't forget to vote on the games poll!

Really? :D That's hilarious, on several levels.

Thanks for the info, I always seem to be one and a half step behind.

I spent some time watching the Eurogamer Expo on DayZ instead. It really sounds like they have some great visions for that game. I just hope it beats the minimum expectations. Also, talk about someone who is passionate about their work..

With regards to the War Z, they had some good ideas too. One being the player-generated quests. I've had that idea myself for years, but I've never seen it implemented in any games before.

Sure, but I bet there are criteria that games have to meet before Valve allows them on steam, why else have things like the greenlight project?

Without having tried it myself, it seems that the developers' intentions are essentially to ride on the DayZ wave, earning some easy money, or is that too cynical? I'm getting some really mixed impressions about this game.

I guess I am not the only one who noticed that steam is promoting a recent release called the War Z?

It is basically a standalone version of the Day Z mod, developed by a different company.

Apparently there are some big discussions going on and many have bad things to say about the game, like it being p2w, lacking advertised elements and generally being a rip off.

From first glance it looks to me like it could have potential though. The p2w claim doesn't seem to have any ground, but regarding the rest, I guess you have to buy the game to figure out if is true or not.

Do any of you know it?

I would just like to add something before this thread locks up.

Since my Adobe Illustrator trial inevitably expired, and I don't want to pay a serious sum of money for it by a monthly subscription, I looked elsewhere for similar software.

What I have found is that good that I have decided to let you and other potential readers know about this (despite the fact that I believe I'm being ostracized, for whatever reason.....)

The program is called CreativeDocs.net and it does everything I've wanted it to do so far:
User posted image
It is obviously free and has a bunch of options for customization. I do suggest you take 10 mins. to figure out how things work exactly, but it is pretty intuitive, and as I have said, it does everything I wanted it to do so far.

I never got that much into Illustrator, but it seem like this works even more intuitively and smoothly, so have fun with it if you do decide to try it out.

Maybe make this official too with profile medals, which might attract more mappers?
If this place becomes just the slightest bit similar to csbanana/fpsbanana/gamebanana, I'm gone.

Regarding he thread, I think the best option would be a category for each game. Choose the games based on a vote on the front page (You can do that, right?), and select the ones that the most people have. Then when the game pool is official, whoever wants to can create a map for whatever game they want, be it a game outside the pool; it doesn't have to be part of the competitions.

To my own surprise, I have changed my mind and am now going with he 6570.

I just watched a video of some 6450 gameplay and although it was happening, it just wasn't as pretty as I thought I had seen it be. This extra step away from minimum should also ensure that I'm on the safe side and that the experience is going to be worth wile.

Oh, and I am probably going to get the PSU and RAM used.

Thanks for all your help.

It's an M57 6066 W14. What would you like to know about it?

Lenovo themselves are pretty sparse with info, but what I got was this:

"Based 6066-CTO: Intel Core 2 Duo Proc E4500, 2GB, 80GB 7200RPM S-ATA HDD, no diskette drive, PCI/PCIe SFF (2x3), Intel GMA 3100, 16x DVD-ROM, Intel Gigabit Ether, Win Vista Business 32"

I would leave a link, but that's not an option; you gotta browse, brow!

I think I'm going for the XFX version of the 6450.

Looking for a used GPU could probably end in a very good deal, but I just don't want to bother with it at this point. Remember, I already made up my mind about the model. I was just stuck between which specific one of the last two options it should be.

Funny thing, they also have an XFX 6450, but clocked considerably lower than any other 6450. This model only had half the bus width to about 150% the price. How does that make any sense?

Sure thing, I will link you, but you better have Google Translate ready ;)

The XFX is priced differently at other vendors, so that's not so much the worry. Still though, no vendors show a lock speed on this specific sub-version of the XFX 6450. Doesn't that seem odd?

I heard there is a way to calculate exactly how much power the different components use, so I will have a look at that before I get a PSU too.

Here are the links:

You have to remember this is GMA 3100. That's back from at least 4 years ago.

As for the service. I'm buying it from a retailer, and I gotta deal with everything through them. That's not a problem though, and I'm not really worried that I won't get it covered if either of them breaks due to law on this area here in Denmark. Thanks for the input though.

I'm thinking more about which one is the safer one to go with. Is the XFX clocked lower, hence the lower price? Or is that unrealistic, and should I therefore go with it and its bigger heat sink for less money?

I know it's a small issue, but hey, at least we have something to talk about. ;)

So you're saying that my CPU won't really matter when it comes to modelling?

Either way, I can't imagine I shouldn't be able to do simple things, like model a prop for source, with what I'm getting. After all, back in 2004 most people didn't have much greater specs than what I'm in for. I guess just running Blender itself doesn't exactly require a Quadro Plex 7000?

Does anyone have an answer to my first world problem about the 6450?

in Which cheap GPU for 3D modelling/mapping Post #311027
I should be covered as long as I'm only talking about level design and 3D modelling on a Source level(hl2ep2, not csgo, assuming that csgo requires more), please correct me if I'm wrong.

Now, I have ran into another issue.

There is a ton of different versions of the same card. The two absolute finalists are the XFX version and the sapphire version.

The XFX has a larger heat sink that expands to both sides of the card, but the video clock frequency has not been listen anywhere, however it is $7/£5 cheaper. The Sapphire has a 1.334 Ghz clock, but the smaller heat sink.

I wouldn't exactly open a threat over this issue, but since we're here anwyay..

Hello, and welcome to another threat about an indecisive person's GPU shopping.

I'm looking for a GPU for less than $110/£70 that will be able to run VHE and Blender reasonably.

My rig is a used SFF ThinkCentre equipped with a 280W PSU and an Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 CPU.

Now, I know that the CPU might actually play a bigger role when it comes to 3D modelling, at least I think so, but I'm not going to invest in anything but a GPU for now.

The candidates are the AMD Radeon HD 5450 at $45/£28, the 6450 at $51/£32 and the 6570 at $78/£49.

They're all the 1GB DDR3 versions. I haven't included the Radeon HD 6670, as it's double the price of a 6450 and seems to be more than what I will need; I'm not a big gamer and I don't intend to become one. I might play games once in a while, but they won't require more than what Portal 2 (or UT3 at the most) does.

So what are your thoughts? Is the 6570 worth it, or can I save the extra bucks with one of the cheaper ones?
