The "is sky" setting doesn't really work the way most people believe it does. :)

By clicking on the steam icon and choosing play games. :zonked:

Do not run Steam from the compiling process. Start up steam manually and run the map from there.

It won't affect your mapping. A few faulty lines in the shutdown sequence code won't damage saved or compiled maps.

No.

Remove the entire skybox and rebuild the sky block by block where appropriate. Also consider other methods that might improve performance. There are null textures, hint brushes, func_wall techniques etc.

This problem is not related to RAM. I believe it has something to do with the graphics drivers. Here are some solutions I'm suggesting:

1. Try updating the graphics drivers
2. Reinstall Hammer
3. Uninstall Service pack 2, you're safer with SP1 and a firewall

ps. Do not combine two different pieces of Ram

It is true that experimentation is in order. But according to his descriptions and the actual problem he gets, there shouldn't be an error at all. Therefor I'm interested in finding a solution to extend my problem-solving knowlegde of hammer. You could say it's for personal gain. :)

I attemped to create some func_water in HL1 without Spirit. Using texture !WATERBLUE, it worked out just as it should do.

From that I could speculate the following reasons:

1. It's something in Spirit (which I don't have any experience in)
2. It's because of the brushwork. 14+ brushes into one entity.

Experiment with those.

I might as well say that Spirit is not recommended for new mappers. Period. To use Spirit, a mapper should have a very good grasp of the basics, experimentation experience and know how to find proper info.

Finally if nothing else works... Upload the map to the problem map vault and provide lots of information about the textures, brushwork, entity setup and purpose of the map. I'm sure someone will check it out and attempt to fix it.

Excuse my funky language. I'm in training for my next articulation exam. :)

Everyone here should just cool off now. Seriously...
Killer, try adding zhlt.wad to your textures. It contains the texture null. Only paint the top face of the entity brush with water and all other sides with null and see if that helps.

Your compiling paths are messed up. I'm a little short on time but I think it has to do with the change directory and copy file processes at the top.
I'll get back to this when I come home. :)

HL2 should be able to. But you may want to simplify the map a little for lag reasons.

BTW. Compiling tools doesn't crash if there's nothing wrong with the map. It common for them to go into non-responding mode. It might just take a few hours for them to complete your work.

hlcsg: Error: Entity 0, Brush 622: mixed face contents
Texture !WATERBLUE and !WATERBLUE
The ZHLTProblems.html has been removed from the latest builds. I don't know why.

Fortunately this problem isn't too tricky to solve on your own. Mixed face contents... in other words, mixed textures. In this case mixed materials. All textures are of a certain type. Example, solid, water, sky, slime, origin, clip.
You can't mix types. Mixing them provides this error. So find your water and make sure all sides are painted the same texture.

You need to copy that corner and rotate the copies. You'll need copy that brush three times.

Use the transformation tool. Along the z axis, turn 90 degrees for copy 1, 180 degrees for copy 2, 270 degrees for copy 3 and put them together.

Create a new folder named "maps" in the opfor folder and target it in the "place compiled maps in this directory before running the game" setting.

No. If you look at the names, you should notice that there's a +0 or a +A in front of the rest of the name. This means that the texture will be switched if used. So activating your func_wall with the texture +0~exampletexture1 would change it to +A~exampletexture1, which could be a texture emitting light. I'm certain there are example maps of this in the map vault.

I think this is covered in the texture lightning tutorial.

The brush you want to light up needs to be a func_wall.
