I am making a map for half life 2 deathmatch i am able to make maps in the editor but when in 3d view i cannot see anything BUT if i make a problem in the map like an invalid solid structure and click go to error i can see my map please help.

when you open a map, go to view -> go to coordinates, enter in "0 0 0" without quotes, and press enter.
alternatively, you can use the camera tool and place a camera near your map.

or go to view -> center 3D views on selection
it will do the same thing as PB's suggestion, but is faster. unfortunately it doesn't have a hotkey.
