Archie - There's no doubt a lot of effort put forth into this video. Thank you! I never thought to do this, But i may implement something for that later on. I'll just have to use the windows movie maker instead of your fancy tools :)

@Disco
info_target is one of my favorite entities for source mapping.
It's my bitch entity for "FireUser#" subroutines

Hmm. It worked 3 times in a row for me. Oh well. Ill have to revisit and update.
The groundwork is laid out though

I hope i don't come across as harsh or anything, but this is what i think:
I Played through until the end of the prison escape scene which i'm assuming is the last level (noclipped and didn't see anything else). I noticed some model errors: floating beds, misplaced doors etc...

In the area with the lone headcrab, i climbed into and got stuck inside the blue dumpster. You might want to put some climbable trash in there in case someone else decides to poke around.

Lighting in general was good. I liked the HDR (dat bloom).

There's a stark lack of ambiance that really detracts from the environments. If the characters spoke, that would add a lot to the immersion. (I know faceposer is broken, and good voice actors are hard to come by)

The turret section seemed too easy to me. The combine almost didn't make it into the room. I would suggest making the combine a bit more aggressive. The whole attack seemed unorganized, and an assault like that would be more calculated.

There's quite a lot you can do with aiscripted_schedules thrown into an assault to have the combine target the turrets more. If the turrets fell more, it would be more of a scramble to replace them / fend off the attackers. On that same note, you can use battle lines for the defenders and keep them in other certain areas / make them hold points more.

The hunter was a nice touch, but again, too easy. He just ran into the middle of the room and got cut down by the three turrets i re-positioned to face the only unopened door...

I know this is a beta, it's a good start!

Multiplexers on the other hand... I'll have to open up my Digital I book to re-learn those..

What if you open a thread and we can have a discussion on the topic

Just don't give up!

Thanks?

Not bad for only 5 hours. It was nice and challenging. I had some missing model errors but I'm not sure why.

Kinda creepy but it gave me a really good laugh.
Thanks Archie! XD

Hahahaha
Omg this map is hilarious.

The mapping is pretty awful but there is a lot of character with what little is there :)

I thought the headcrab was going to lead the way so I got lost in some nooks and crannies probably not meant to be seen.

Wow grim, what an excellent post :) Thanks for that!
I would absolutely love to learn how to do that.
But I probably need more schooling. Sigh. If i won the lotto, I would go back to school to learn how to do all this.

Funny that; I would spend my money on all the education I would ever want.
One can dream.

You probably know more coding and 3D than most people here.
I just know how to use the tools that control DirectX and OpenGL.

That's a neat journal man :)
I've always wanted to do some sort of 3D rendering on my calculator. Maybe now i'll try.
I do have to admit though; for an engineer, my math skills are lacking.

What if we all make a CS map SPECIFICALLY for this competition?
Christmas or Holiday themed?
Deadlines hold fast no matter what?

If we don't get enough, we can pull from the old stock?

I'm a firm believer in shunning Windows 8. But is 8.1 better - because I honestly Love windows 7.
Can you do a system restore?
If that doesn't work, you might have to do a re-format.
It sucks, but It could be a great excuse to throw a SSD in your computer so it can fly.

Commented 10 years ago2013-11-05 02:41:52 UTC in journal: #8278 Comment #49535
They're for actbusy schedules and making NPCs crouch behind shit - such as couches and chest-high-walls and the like. The floaty white ones are "World:Visually Interesting" and act to draw attention to the windows even if nobody is standing behind them.

Its so the combine are ready to fire at that location as soon as a citizen pops his head into a window.

There are also hint nodes on the floor near the windows for the citizens to know that there's a window there.

They don't crouch behind windows but they know to at least duck out of the way to reload.

Rubbing alcohol will do fine. Just use a cotton ball or a Q-Tip AFTER you wipe most of it away.

It should at least play if you force the engine to Dx level 7
"-dxlevel 70" is the launch parameter...
Only thing with that would be the particles. I never included different DX level particles... so they would still be fully rendered.

I understand your perdicament!

Lighting in skybox was off due to another light_environment hiding within the displacements. Removed, recompiled, and it worked fine.
Thanks again for pointing out the quality issue - I would have let it slide but there was time to find and resolve the problem :)

I changed the hints and added another - let's hope other players can follow them easier.

I haven't set anymore key reset's though so unless you drop the stone off the island you're not getting it back if its unreachable.

Thanks for your review Archie!

I used the pre-canned HDR final compile on the map - I also noticed the skybox flaws.
I was skeptical when the compile only took about 6 minutes, but i had to stop for the moment and I wasn't quite sure if I would have the time to submit at a later time.

I found a few more free hours so I'll try to re-compile with better lighting; maybe I'll find a way to guide the player some more...

Darn.
I have rooted a friend of mine's HTC One. (There are also UNROOT instructions floating around the webernetz)
Cyanogen > Any stock OS.

It doesn't use any bloat ware. Whatever is on the phone is put there by you.
I have an S4 now and I'm pretty close to rooting it because I've come across a few recurring bugs that are quite annoying.

Haven't set aside the time is my only excuse for not rooting it so far.
Commented 10 years ago2013-10-15 12:13:27 UTC in journal: #8268 Comment #62569
Its for the ATT network.
Not sure if it's compatible with other carriers - I don't know how that works.
If you buy, i'll even throw Cyanogenmod on the phone for you :-P
Commented 10 years ago2013-10-15 10:29:50 UTC in journal: #8268 Comment #62568
I'd also recommend an Android over an iPhone. I went from an iPhone 4 to a Galaxy S3 and I couldn't believe the difference.
IF you get any older android phone, its probably best to root it and put Cyanogenmod on it. The level of control you have over your phone is insane - and it's stable to boot.

I have an old blue Galaxy S3 i'm not using. I'm willing to sell for the right price :-P
