Reissues is Released!

It's done! After two years and many highs and lows, we've finally got this mod finished. Here's the official press release:

"Reissues" is a community compilation of 30 single player Half-Life 1 levels authored by a mix of various designers. Each one has created their own unique, self-contained chapter: you'll spelunk into ancient Egyptian tombs, scale mile-high cliff sides, and fight your way through several clever re-imaginings of Black Mesa - among other exciting setpieces!

Why did we bother squeezing this last bit of mileage out of a decade-old game engine? Because Half-Life 1 offers a unique feel and aesthetic that makes it a timeless classic; because great gun fights remain great fun fights, even without shiny next-gen graphics; because we love what we do, and we hope you'll love it too.

Re: The guy underneath me: Why i love mapping for HL1:

1. Nostalgia - yeah, it's a no brainer, but it's true. I love that game. It's the game that got me into the whole mapping scene.

I can never forget the countless hours i spent in front of my sceen playing leaky, shitty maps i made and using the crowbar to bang my name on walls.

2. It's got Retro feel. Nothin, no game, ever - will FEEL like HL1. No game CAN feel like HL1. It's not only the look and the controls, it's everything. If you want to know what i'm on about, play half-life again.

3. It's got prestige. If you can pull off stuff like difficult entity setups, complex moving objects, and abstract architecture, always pushing the engine to it's memory alloc:block limits... and if you do it right: everyone who has ever tried to map will respect, and want to improve on what you've done. It's a lot more difficult to do some things in HL1 - and that's why it's so much more rewarding to work for.

A New HL1 Project is starting. Issues?!!!

This was sent to all the Issues people:
Over on the Spirit of Half-Life boards there's been a certain amount of interest expressed in doing another PQL/Issues like map-pack of Spirit based maps. It probably means I'm certifiably insane, but I'm actually considering leading it. I wanted to find out how you guys felt about it first though - after all Issues was a group effort.

I'm not really sure how much interest there might be in doing another project based on HL1. I know some of the VERC regulars tried to do a PQL3 based on HL2, but it seems to have fizzled - so this might be really "beating a dead horse" so to speak.

I guess to find out I'll just have to make a few posts around and see what kind of response I can get.

I don't have eMails any more for all of our orignal group - for that matter I'm not sure if the one's I have for all of you are still good. If you know of any others, please pass this on to them (and let me know what their eMail addresses are).

Thanks!
Firebinder
If you haven't heard of Issues, urgh.. Look it up at moddb or read about the idea here: http://unquenque.com/quantum/

I'm not sure how far Firebinder would have wanted me to spread this....

So, if you're interested in another HL:Spirit Project, make your self known by broadcasting your approval via any electronic dispatch.

PS: Don't Email me - i don't/won't/didn't run the mod.

:( I hate being late.

But sadly, due to a lot of issues.. blabla bla.. Excuses...

I'm Late for the TWHLmix deadline. I'm mapping like hell to catch up through my own fault.

If you were next in line, please start mapping, don't wait up. My map ends in a teleport so you can have any environment with a xen sky ;)

Anyway.. SORRY SORRY SORRY SORRY SORRY!!! :(

wow - these journals have become a new form of communication :P

The Broadband In Ireland isn't fast enough and too restrictive (bandwidth) to justify the costs.

:o Rust seems to be down for some time now - I really hope it gets back up :|

Only 4 days of Broadband left - then its back to 56k :(

The ironic thing is, when i had broadband, i hardly thought about my website and mapping. But now that i'm getting rid of it - i've started mapping like mad, updating the site daily and whatnot.

Coming soon: Me talking through my arse about Level Design theory.

Oh, and i just deleted half of my TWHLmix? stuff i was preparing - just one of those days... Back to Square 3.764

HDD Failures are Nasty :(

What's even more nasty is the time loss - i don't really care that much for the data.. 1's and 0's mean nothing to me.

It would be sad if i lost some good work, but work can be recreated again.

Its the time. Time hits you, and then you have none :(

I've passed on my place in TWHLmix2 - i won't have enough time to finish the map, and sort out my PC, and fill up my 4 GB download limit ;) all in the space of 2 weeks.

: Hmm... Back to Backups for me. :zonked:

Mapped for the first time in weeks - it took a while to make anything worthy, but its good to see that you don't loose any of your Hammer prowess that easily :P
