My Mom totaled our car on the freeway a while back, so on top of having to take my driving test again in about a week, I now have to do it with a manual in my Dad's car. Yeehaw.

You're all idiots. Auto = easier to drive. Why would you want anything else?
There's no reason to have a manual unless you're doing some offroad or beach driving. Having driven both, I know that automatic is much better to drive.
Personally, I hate driving, so you revheads can continue dreaming about gearboxes and driveshafts and whatnot.

Guys, I KNOW manual is better. This wasn't about me hating manuals, it's about me not wanting to make my driving test unnecessarily hard by using one.
Livewire: No it's not the same, God bless 'murica
Masta Killa: That doesn't even make sense, that's the exact situation where automatics are easier in. There's nothing painful about driving auto.
Penguinboy: As usual, a douche. This time, not even an educated one, but you're right that most people have no need for manual. Go take your train.
Yodalman: They're not identical in the least, although if you aren't driving fast and you don't know how they work internally you'd be hard pressed to find a difference.

Yeah. Manuals get better gas mileage as well. I've been driving an automatic for the 3 years i've been driving. I wish i had a manual. My next car will be a standard.

Same situation as Livey's here. You can't drive manual if you've passed with automatic. Also, Tetsu0's right. And to my limited knowledge, cars with automatics are usually more expensive?
Most of you pro-auto folks make it sound like changing gears manually is the hardest task one can ever get behind the wheel. Nonsense. Once you're used to it, it makes fairly little impact to your driving experience.
Not that I'm implying automatic isn't more comfortable for everyday driving, etc. It's just that the difference isn't that damn huge as some of you portray it.

Dunno about anyone else, but I never implied such a thing. All I said is that auto is easier to drive, and you don't need a manual if all you're doing is driving around town. Driving scares the shit out of me in the first place, so anything that makes it easier is a good thing.

Who cares if autos are easier. -Manual gives you more control -Manuals last far longer than autos -Less maintenance -Less weight -Cheaper -Better gas mileage -More power to the wheels -Less wear on brakes since you can downshift
Good luck.
I prefer manual, because then YOU'RE driving the car, it isn't driving you.
Clutch = More control = Win.

I'll take the train.
LOOK AT MY CHEST HAIR AS I CHANGE GEARS.
Easier is what i like, not unnecessary harder mode which is identical to auto mode.
No, i don't know what the fuck i'm talking about, don't quote me on this.
