Thinking about making maps based on my favorite books. The ones I'd like to most right now is one based on Jurassic Park by Micheal Crichton and even more than that The Mist by Stephen King. I'd really like to do The Mist but instead of taking areas already in th book add new new ones. One area i think would be cool to do would be the military base that the "Arrowhead Project" had taken place at and is responsible for the disaster. I'd of course being doing in HL1 or maybe Op4 but Goldsource none the less. My current idea for creating the mist itself would be to create large func_illisionary brushes and use a custom texture for the fog and make it slightly transparent but I'm not sure that this would be the best way to go about this. Is there anther better way to create fog in Goldsource?

PS: How do I lock doors without assigning them a button?

just set the name to "omygoshIjuststeppedonabuganditlookslikepoo". I doubt there would be a button you make called that.

Also, you should read The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. It's a great story about a child who was raised by dead spirits in a graveyard. I loved it.

I'm not sure I follow you, I want to lock a door without using a button, just locked.

Of course, since that makes perfect sense. (BM was originally based off that same base from the mist, back when HL was codenamed Quiver)

Name it nevergonnaopen. that's what they named the locked door for the G-man office in the AM labs (As seen in the HL SDK) and I've used it since then. Works perfectly, as long as you don't mind it never opening.

Hm I wasn't even aware that Quiver was based on that base, and thanks I would have never figured that a naming it something special would work.

To lock a door, just give it a name without targeting that name with any other entity. Once doors have a name, they can't be opened on contact, they must be triggered.

If you want to open it by walking through it on a certain side, make an aaatrigger by it.

haven't you all watched the movie version of The Mist already? It had an epic ending.

Ugh don't remind me, everything leading up to that remained nicely true to the book, except the end.

it may not be true to book but I think king was impressed by that ending too. I don't think I've remember any other movie with such a twist

Personally I thought the twist was a bad idea.
