Half-Life Dreamcast: Part 2

-Mods

For a game that was never released this port has quite a vibrant modding community.

Black Ops: No saving but at least it lets your start at different sections. Other than that it's pretty good. I'll leave this one up to you.

Opposing Force: No saving and if you want to go back to a map you have to use a Dreamcast Keyboard to type in the map name and etc. Also includes some mods but they also need the keyboard. Skip This.

Counter Strike: I haven't played too much of it but so far it isn't CS. No saving. It's like a really crappy mod of Condition Zero Deleted Scenes. Skip It

Grunt: Haven't got this to work yet. I might talk about it in the next part if I get it working

Paranoia: God I hate this mod. I haven't got that far but so far it looks fullbright. For the love of god skip it.

They Hunger Trilogy: This is a really good port. The only thing wrong is that you can't die in the first Episode. Get it.

Blue Shift: Someone Put Blue Shift on a standalone disk. Yes. Really.

Join in for part 3... sometime...

Paranoia as in a port of the original HL mod? Because from what I remember that mod what great. Unless it's not the same Paranoia, or just a really bad port.

Yes it's the mod you are thinking of. I hate the mod because the gameplay is horrible. It just gets a break because it looks nice.

Paranoia's gameplay isn't horrible at all. It's just extremely generic.

That's what I meant. It's so Average that it sucks. Like COD.

WHERE ARE YOU GETTING THESE MODS?

I am genuinely curious!

And how do you play them on your Dreamcast? Do you burn a game CD with the mod files on it in place of the originals?

I can't imagine what would possess somebody to create a HL mod on the Dreamcast as opposed to the PC. It makes no sense to me. I have the DC version of HL, and "difficult to manage" would be a bit of an understatement regarding the realities of using a gamepad to play it.

Almost all Dreamcast systems are capable of playing backups on CD-R's (only cd-r's). If the image file is a cdi file then use Diskjuggler and when you put it in your Dreamcast it should work right away. If it isn't a cdi file then it's a bit more iffy. I can't find a working way to make a mod working on HL Dreamcast (believe me I tried).

There is just something about playing it on a Dreamcast. It's magic (You know. I cannot believe its not so :P). I found the controls to actually work pretty well given the controller. The only thing that's not so great is the "shift" function.

I just can't play FPS's with gamepads, period. Not without copious amounts of auto-aim, which makes it feel like I'm cheating.
