It pays to learn how to touch-type:

Mine.

I think I can do a bit better.

Mine.

I can't touch type, but I can type fast enough that I don't really care to learn anyway. Also I always instictively backspace errors when I feel myself make them, so I rarely spell things wrong.

I'm in the same boat as Scotch, I can't touch type, as I can type fairly fast anyway. However, I think I could probably type much faster if I was typing something I was thinking of, or typing a coherent paragraph. Having to look up at the screen after every word really slows things down.

And I think the fastest I have ever done on that website was about 60-65 WPM, however that was after quite a few attempts.

Visit the Typing Test and try!

Perhaps guys like TJB who complain about coherent sentences to type have a more focused, convergent mind. Who knows... I've been reading about lateral thinking a while ago.

I don't know what "touch-type" is, if you're referring to writing on a smartphone/tablet, then 90 wpm just sounds impossible.

Anyway, the fact that I succeeded 90wpm does not prove that I always write like this. Not when I try to make a forum post, at least...

(c)Striker, touch-typing is tyiping without looking at yuour keyboard. Kind of like this post, where I also didn't bother with nbackspace.

...I need to work on that.

In my opinion, you don't write better than a slow writer if you misspell. It's better to write correct than to write fast.

Well, then I touched-typed. TJB, you remind me of an old-school engineer that taught himself computers by reading books.

I have to admit though, that test is not 100% proof. My 90 WPM touch-type was established just for the A-Z keys. Those are the only keys, amongst with other usual ones that I can touch-type. Should I need a special character, like "&", then I'd have to look :).

I thought everybody touch-typed, it's just s inefficent pecking...

satch: you got him on a normal-sized keyboard?(I know caviar or "chicklet" keyboards seem more compact for smaller fingers, or they have dem for kids now?)

I got him a blank keyboard from Amazon.

It will force him to learn how to touch type.

I am just curious, what keyboard do you use, GrimReafer?

I just bought Das Keyboard. It's expensive, but perhaps it can help me improve my typing speed.

Currently, I have he Logitech Illuminated Keyboard.

I have a Das Keyboard ("Silent" version). I've been using it for the last 3-4 months or so. It's without doubt the best keyboard I've ever used. But I wish it had media buttons.

I forgot to post that my typing speed improved with the Das keyboard.
