The first human colony on Mars! Launch is planned for September 2022. You can apply on the site above, and with luck you can become an astronaut yourself!

I watched that. Are you sure you want to forever leave the Earth on a forsaken planet? You need to be highly courageous. This is almost like a supreme sacrifice. I don't think it's really possible if you have a family.
Just not yet... men and women who go on this trip will be brave pioneers. They state explicitly that there's no turning back, it's all a chance of future technology.

I don't like the way it seems to be based on votes, rather than physical and psychological vetting. If I want to go to space, I'll go the harder but more rewarding route. I'm doing aerospace engineering and I'm interested in perhaps trying to work at NASA or ESA when I graduate (after experience of course), perhaps in 15 years with luck I might actually end up in a rocket as a flight engineer?

They claim to do both. First they weed off the useless bums then they let the public choose between the qualified ones.
Yeah, sounds fishy. I'm really thinking they are actually trying to do a sort of Big Brother type reality show. It's only the novelty value of it being in Mars that would draw an even larger audience.

Striker, there's no such thing as an intellectual discussion here on the internet.
