I remember when I was 16 I used to take the train to college, it would be fully packed in the morning, I had these crappy pair of earphones; people could hear what I was listening to when sitting around me. I remember one day for some reason I was listening to Natural Born Killaz by Dr Dre & Ice Cube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9-M2tqIX38) some crazy song, and I got the dirties looks from people all around the train car, and I was just sitting there wondering why everyone was staring at me.
Oh god why...
I know one time I walked out of a train station with that song on, and some black dude just turned around and stared at me with an expression like 'is this guy for real' and I just smiled, I only clocked later that he could hear it.

Sometimes I take my earphones in public to check if I can hear them. I also like to keep the volume normal. I hear other people listening to their music and it's either their bad earphones or high volume.
Lately I've discovered that I enjoy listening to podcasts though.

I use in ear earphones. And on low volume. I don't hear bull shit around me, the audio level is enough to be enjoyable yet not loud.

With some earphones you just can't help it, it's either your music is quiet, or it's at a good volume and others can hear it too.

Some earphone designers are retarded and put holes on the outside part that let all the audio leak out. I don't know why.
