Today I got my new computer and I set everything up, then I go to play HL2 and it crashes at the loading screen and then I said no big deal I'll goto the steam support page so I look up the problem and it says I have to manully allow HL2 to play through the firewall and I don't know where to go, Ant told me to get zonealarm and that it would overide the XP one

So can you help me?

I got it already, but even though I unblocked HL2 on it it still crashes

Are your graphics card drivers up-to-date?
Its possible that HL2 can't configure your best settings for you by itself due to out of date drivers.

hmmm I'll update, I'm just using the onse on the disk

Just how did you unblock HL2 anyway, did you go to Program Control and tick HL2 in the right fields?

Remember when updating a driver DISABLE virus scan while doing it, and before installing the new one, remove the old driver from the add/remove programs first!

Ok I just updated the drivers today but It still crashes before it gets to the menu, It might have been a problem with the outdated stuff (I dident have SP2) So I'm DLing that now and I'll see what happens.

Well, it seems strange that the firewall would be doing it, so I'm gonna blame this one solely on dodgy drivers. Update everything you can: update your BIOS, update the motherboard drivers - whatever you can find.

Ok new thing comes up when I try play it, I get the send error report, I had a look through the stuff that came up and it looks like an exception error, Even though I put it in the list.

It always says exception error or runtime error.

Reinstall? Validate the game cache?

Ok fixed it, it was because I had no sound, It all works fine. Thanks for the help though!
