I want to use the beta models this pack specifically http://www.moddb.com/games/half-life/addons/zelaroth1
for a map but without completely replacing all the normal models for in Half-Life. How can I do this? I'd like to use the beta zombie and some cut enemies but if I put these models into my models folder in Half-life it will replace the current ones.

spirit.dll is a modified code for HL that lets you use half-life monsters, but with any model you want. get spirit.fgd or play some spirit-based mods like Reissues and you'll see what I mean

Yeah, rename the models and use spirit for your map/mod. Problem solved. :)
I recommend you use 1.5a4, as it's the last official version without sparks randomly happening everywhere (The non-official ones are based off of 1.2 and break some things)

when you say sparks randomly happening do you mean above monsters' heads when they hesitate or something?

Possibly. Either way it happens when developer 0 is on, which is bad for players.

are you talking about the yellow 'flies' that hover around monsters stuck in walls?

The yellow flies alert the dev, or whoever, that the error is there.

well I took it to meant that an env_spark appears above monster's heads. I found that it was a debug function that was in the SDK. It occurred when monsters can't find a path to the player CUE "You're going to have to leave me here, Gordon"

Yeah, sparks above NPC's heads- even when they're just standing there, though. And this is in the Vanilla maps, too. That's why I prefer 1.5a4 over 1.8, because it doesn't have that, and 1.8 doesn't really add any new features.

I prefer 1.5a4 as well. The 1.8 physics and logics entities are much more complicated than those in 1.5a4.
