I figured I'd mix things up a little. We all list our favourite games from time to time, favourite soundtracks and movies as well. However, what you should do in this thread, is to list some of your favourite games with your least favourite part(s) and feature(s)

Half-Life - GoldSource titles

Island hopping in Xen. Some sections of Xen were great and Blue-Shift showed how Xen could be done really really well. The original title and Opposing Force however, went way overboard with the moving platform / floaty island navigation.

Half-Life - Source titles

Manhacks - Thankfully more rare in the episodes, these are one of the most irritating enemies in any game I've ever played.

Airboat / Buggy sequence - Episode 2 got vehicles right, and a good job too consider a large chunk of that game is spent in the muscle car. The original HL2 however did not fare so well in my eyes. Both the buggy and the airboat sections really irritated me.

Fallout 3

Metro tunnels - I love open world games. The things you can stumble across by chance are a good distraction when it seems as though nothing is really going on. However, the metro tunnels are way too linear and overused to be fun. The first time they can be tricky to navigate and you can still find hidden caches, bits of lore and occasional frantic close quarters combat. However, when you're ducking back into a tunnel to get from point A to point B and you've already cleared it out, it essentially becomes a ten minute loading screen that you can't walk away from. New Vegas did away with these thankfully.

Skyrim

The Main Questline - This one is quite a glaring issue. It's probably only an issue if you were to play Skyrim and for some reason were determined to avoid all side quests or exploration. That is not the best way to experience an open world game at all, especially Skyrim. The main questline is simply really dull. I'd have to do a main story quest, then take a break and explore for a bit, or deal with some of the many, far more interesting side quests.

Call of Duty Series - ZOMBIES
-Lack of freedom, though it may be a zombie survival and should be limited, I think it'd be cool if you could jump around stuff, debries, and be realistic, because if you can climb a ladder, you sure as hell will. And it'll also make it a cooler way to die, like if you'd go though a barrier in Kino Der Toten, and get cornered. Ha, that's original.
-Scattered story line. I've ended up RolePlaying and we've all been using CoD Zombies as the base for our Role plays, the Zombies idea puts us all a Nazi Zombie apocalypse, but for someone to really understand what's going on, they'd have to play a lot of other Zombie maps to get an idea about Group 935, Richtofen and so they'd also have to do a HUGE read up on the CoD wiki to get any information, so yeah, new comers have NO idea what the hell is going on, Group 935, Element 115, who Samantha Maxis is, who Maxis is, yada yada.

Counter-Strike 1.6 to Counter-Strike: Source
  • Lack of instant respawn
  • Lack of Free for all
Self explanatory, it can be a real bitch when on a tight schedule in frees or when bunking.

Counter-Strike:Global Offense
  • Inability to use custom models/skins in game.
I used to use Mw3 ported weapons, player models and so on in Counter-Strike Source, even the FAMAS from Black Ops 1. I really missed this in CS:GO, and this totally enhanced CS:S for me. I think it'd be great if you could mod stuff again in CS:GO WITHOUT the File purity being a total bitch. Alas, Counter-Strike improves and fucks up things at the same time, but CS:GO has Deathmatch, and I've got that going for me which is nice, but can't really do that in school though.

League of Legends
  • Added Chroma Caitlyn, which screwed up my custom Allgemeine SS player model I had made and modified for her, and I'm so confused with all the files for her chroma pack that I just gave up. I enjoyed my Allegemine Caitlyn a lot... Oh well, at least I've still got the Neko Soraka...
Microsoft Flight Simulator X
Honestly, Microsoft stopped this in FS2002 I believe. But I find the lack of damage models and crash physics to be a total loss. I have to use IL-2 1946 Forgotten Battles (UltraPack 3 RC4 with mods) to just have fun and perhaps do one wheel landings or simulate heavily damaged recoveries/returns to base. I only fly on FSX due to the Dubai airport addon, and the various HD WWII aircrafts there, but it really does suck to lack damage models for these aircrafts. True, it's a pain in the ass, but if you're doing something good, do it properly. People are making F18 HORNETS for IL-2 and they do bloody good jobs with it. Shame as it's a downer for Microsoft here.

World of Tanks
-Shitty matchmaking
-Bullshit matchmaking
-Bullshit tier matchmaking system
-More bullshit
-Pay to win
-Rage simulator

The Xen island-hopping wasn't great, no, but I reckon Blue Shift's whole Xen section was worse. I can't name any aspects of it that I like over the original's.

I can't think of anything to add myself just yet. I shall return later.

95% of AAA games - The in-game tutorials for single player campaigns are an immersion breaker for me. Freeze screens, text pop-ups, etc while you're freshly starting up that new, highly anticipated game are a no-go.
ex: Freeze screen -> Press "C" to crouch, press "P" to pause, press Space to jump, or even worse, that NPC popping out of nowhere in the corner of the screen telling you what to do and how to do it.
What happened to progressive learning/difficulty and "teaching without teaching" with the new gen games?

Edit: Also cinematics. I don't mind seeing a couple of them in a 10-20 hour campaign, but they get annoying having to go through one every half hour. The cake goes to the unskippable cinematics; you know, the ones where you`re mashing every button on your keyboard just to try and figure out if you can end the NPC blabber.
I wish more games would go the Half-life route and use interactive cutscenes, it's not like even most AAA games use high-res pre-renders in their cinematics anymore...

One of my favourite YouTube videos actually touches on this very issue, using Mega Man X on SNES as the example. I'd say it's worth a watch if you haven't seen it already: Clicky!

Payday 2
  • Bot AI. Allows you to play offline (great if you have a shitty connection or just plain don't feel like playing with others) but can't do anything besides follow you around, provide cover fire and help you back up when you're downed, and is stupid enough to make that pretty much useless on most difficulty levels. Top moments of stupidity include standing in front of the line of fire of a machine-gun turret without moving, and coming to help you up, stopping when they're nearly done, standing still while under fire until your death counter hits the mandatory "Bot must abort all things and help now" level, then getting downed before it can get you up.
Fallout: New Vegas
  • Return to Sender quest. I actually like this one, because it features one of my favorite NCR characters in the game and a tough decision, but when you're the sort of person who tries to avoid using fast travel, having to hump it across the map for two return trips to Ranger Station Foxtrot is a pain in the ass.

Dark Souls
Sometimes, Dark Souls has a bad habit of breaking its own rules, even though it's acclaimed for "always having a consistent ruleset." The game gets to its most frustrating when you reach a bonfire, rest at it, and then run on and die, but then, for some reason, respawn at an entirely different bonfire on the opposite side of the level which doesn't even work anymore because its keeper is dead. So, if you want to fight that boss again, every time you do you have to run through the rafters of a cathedral and wait for a slow-ass moving elevator every single time.

All of the Final Fantasy Games
Level grinding. I like the idea that anybody can beat a game no matter how good/bad they are, but level grinding is just tedious and time-consuming.

DayZ
The bugs. God, this game would be so great if it weren't so buggy. So many beautiful runs through this game were ruined by connection problems and flat-out glitches and random deaths.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution -- The Director's Cut
Specifically the director's cut, because it chose to add the DLC (which took place somewhere in the middle of the game) into the middle of the game, which really wasn't a smart move. It means that out of nowhere, the plot had to get completely derailed so that Adam Jensen can run around a ship for 6 hours. And the worst part is, at the end of it you get your original Praxis points and all of the new Praxis points from the ship level, and you end up being OP as fuck.
