an idea i had almost a year ago.

a wwII jetfighter mod for hl.

nwo you probavbly say: well how do you want ot do that on the hl engine. well quit easy actualy. if you ever layed hl rally you will have noticed how big the maps are. not so strange, your very very small. so if i could convert the special hull to my 'mod' i should be able to solve that problem. for texture i coudl use dod textures since oyu can use them in your own mod. as they are owned by valve. the models shouldn be a problem. a few simple animations. it will be the weapon oyu see in 3rd person wichis also you. so you will see the plane from behnd. whilst the plane is your weapon. then you give the player the properties of a WWII plane(coding). now i have that solved, the houses could be a set of models so you can simulate viliges towns and forests. the rocks and train can be formed by the trinagle mothod. and wiht fog effects supported by hl you should be able to decrase fps as they do in other games like battlefield. the modles i cna make my self. i think if i aks the hl rally team they can give me instructions how to adjust the hul file. the aircraft shouldn be a problem. firing is wiht the mp5 and secundary will (maby if possible)drop a bomb on a target. liek a func breakeble. you cna select your plane by selecting a class system as in tfc and dod. and you shoudl be able to limit the classes. liek me-109 quik fighter. he-111 the heavy bomber to destroy the target.
i should be able to make when oyur 'walk' at a certain sped oyu will go up(generate lift).

i would liek your gusy opinion about this. ministeve will maby remember the post from last year, he reacted to it. for now il start by myslef and see how far i come.

doesnt sound to bad to me but well, i have been thinking about this for a long long time!

It would lag a lot with big maps, but it sounds possible.

hmmmm.... it could be done, i guess, but i think it would lag a lot! with screwed up r-speeds.

I'm not that worried about lag, since the world could be made very simple. OK, doesn't look too good then but with a few good textures a lot can be faked.

What I am worried about, is, how do you think to code it? It sure will require some experience with the sourcecode...

my borther has quite some experience wiht coding so he can help me wiht that.
and the towns trees forests. will be low-poly models.
and at the edge of the lever you will get a message return now ore you will be shot(battlefield like). and you can easily create hills for it. and when hl2 comes out i should be able to port it all to hl2!!

there's better games out there that have already been made, but if you wanna spend your ime doing it and think it could be possible and more than you and 40 friends would play it; then i say go for it. do what you want. but it does sound buggy

I think it would be extremely cool, but it would take a lot of time
If you where to make detailed tga files for the sky that would be cool
then you can make a village that way=--anyways, sounds good.

Oh yes, this mod would definitely require custom textures.

Oh, a fun arcade pilot game. You know, you fly a jet and wave after wave of enemy fighters appear in front of you. Better as most of it's type, graphically relatively good-looking and a good diversity in enemy's. Cool endbosses too... :)

its easy, a xen map sky and star destroyer as a main spawn point. only the weapons/laser would be hard but that should be albe to solve
