I can't seem to find another topic with this problem, so I will ask. :)

I am very new to using hammer and have only tried doing very basic things. But currently I'm having a problem where if I load my map in couterstrike there are textures, but if I load my map in HL2 there are no textures, just this pink and black squares on everything. I dont know the full differences between a HL2 map and a CS:S map but I plan on making a single player mod so I assume I want to use HL2 to run it not CS:S.

Anyways, maybe someone can shed some light on this for me :)

Thanks

Did you actually select the texture you want to apply to your brushes or did you just use the default "aaatrigger" texture of HL?

Have you had a chance to browse through the tutorials yet? It might be very helpful.

This is because the Material files from the Counter-Strike: Source GCFs (And used in the default setup of Hammer 4 and the SDK) are not present in Half-Life 2's GCFs. When you compile a map with these materials, it will work in CS:S, because the game is loading the CS:S GCF, while not in HL2 since its loading the source materials GCF instead, so it's looking for files that aren't there.

You should load up the HL2 content if you want to make maps for HL2 - And the following tutorial tells all about doing it:

The alternative to this is to wait until the full SDK is released - which should be very soon.

Thanks, I sorta thought it had something to do with what you said, but as I'm new to mapping I wasn't sure. Thanks :)

my advice... mod using the set-up for hl2 not cs, kinda pointless to make a hl2 single player mod in cs
