There was a topic here a while ago about reflections in HL1..... i knew i had seen them somewhere and i just found it! In the beginning of Blue Shift, when you are on the tram... and you go past the scientists in the canteen (they are behind glass), there is reflection in the floor of not only the tables but also the scientisits!

There is a reflection example map, and in the Trapped competition entry Cause of Death I gave the G-Man a reflection also. I think. Unless I had to take it out.

yuh but this is a relection in the floor, with the scientists reflected as well... in the floor! even as they move!

just wondering if anyone knows how it was done lol... thought it was impossible

I think they're just flipped upside down and have a clip brush underneath them to prevent them from falling.

Wouldn't the reflections show up underneath with their heads touching the feet of the scientist above? That would be some serious model manipulation, wouldn't it?

i think they did it by doing normal reflections and since that entire thing was scripted just had sci's with the x y z making them upsidedown also doing the same scipted mirriord.

Ya they just took everything flipped it upside down and made the floor transparent so it looks like everything is reflecting, but your actually only seeing through the floor to everything upside down.

It's not really that hard, the only tricky bit is stopping the bloody fellas falling down on their heads on the 'ceiling' below.

So you'd set up so you couldn't kill these scientists, as they'd die and the reflection wouldn't? Correct?

Hm, not necessarily. You could have a trigger_hurt enveloping the 'underworld', triggered by the aboveworld scientist's death... the anims. wouldn't match though.

no would the physics presumably...

has anyone actually tried to remake this scene from blue shift?

There are no physics, also don't you need a clip brush or anything to keep the turned over sci in place.
Yes you do. I've been here, haz. Say you place a monster in HL1, in the air, they don't just hover

Crazy. Maybe I had them slightly too low. T'was quite awhile ago, anyway, back in my early mappin' days :)
