If you haven't seen it you Will see it.The Tripods (Wanting an .mdl here!)
fire laserbeams which Annihilate anything where people are. They grab people And Eat them whenever they feel hungry.(Shiver...)
When they are in the basement of this guy the martians come in and look about. It makes a cool noise when The tripods Walk together.Cool.

He just said they looked like crap,, ;)
(wich doesn't mean that they looked like shit but something related to the word.)

I saw that movie...
I liked it! :)
The end didn't make any scence though, but some one told me that you had to read the WOTW book to understand it properly..
But I can't say what they mean cuz not every one has seen it..

I've read the book..Im guessing the movie will hopefully show some realism to it (and what i mean is that movies tend to make up there own stuff and not go by the book, and i dont mean because they skipped a few chapters because movies cant be insanely long)

10 points for crap ending.
In saying that though, everything else about it was amazing. I must say the special effects are crazy and you can really see where Valve got their inspiration for the Striders. ;)

yeah, that would be good. It would be cool if they had those big solar guns as well, well not good for Gordon, but a nic addition. But methinks that might get the copyrigh people involved...
has anyone ever heard the soundtrack to War of the Worlds, as in the audio novel?

WOTW sucked. Tom Cruise sucks. End of story.

Tom Cruise sucks
well thats a given, but dont you think you should give a reason why you thought the movie sucked?
Posted 19 years ago2005-08-18 08:06:08 UTC Post #128257
WotW was a decent movie. The story quite much sucked, being from the end of the 19th century, as well as most scripts and some actors, but it was an intense movie and I quite so much liked it.

Don't you know of the radio series that aired in 1938? it was before people had normal acess to television, and they didnt announce that it was a story so people beleived it, rioted and committed suicide. it was horrible...

as for book that was written in the 1870s, it was set in britian so what did Holywood do? Set in in America of course to prevent copyright infringment.

The ending was bollocks. They obviously didnt have enough money to destroy Boston or use any more special effects there so they decided to end the film there wheras in the book, the main character is seperated from his son and daughter and dies a lonely, sad man.

{On top of all that, it had Tom Cruise in it which makes any film crap}

I have that Half Life 2 Raising the Bar book and it talks about Valve taking their inspiration from WotW

*Potential Spoilers*

I quote myself
The first part was nice but the last half of the film was horrible.
Spielberg even had to copy the Velociraptor Kitchen Scene from his "Jurassic Park" film. Very dissapointing
The film begins nicely and there are some really good sequences. But from the moment they enter the basement and play hide and seek with those teletubbie-like creatures, It loses a lot. I dont care if the book has a well written end. The end of the film should work without having to read the book and it does not. It reminds me of parts of "Matrix Reloaded" that were absent in the film because they were included in the videogame "Enter The Matrix". Because of this, many people found the movie even more confusing that it was...

Yea, I seen it, and I agree that the aliens could have been made alot better.

I read it. I won't watch it.

[edit: Go on, daubster, what happened in the movie version? Cold? I heard the film is tripe, so you're spoiling nothing for us]

I thought it was a really good movie.
Special effects where good.
And the battle on the hill where you can't actually see it happening, is awesome.

well thats a given, but dont you think you should give a reason why you thought the movie sucked?
The beginning was promising but Lucas just filled the whole movie with 'random' "special-effects" (They're not so SPECIAL nowadays..).
You can watch WOTW once without digging your eyes out of your head.
If someone likes this film = No taste.

Luckily I downloaded WOTW and didnt pay anything for it.
Don't take me serious.. or take, I don't care.

Imo, it was worth seeing, but not a masterpiece in any way. It had some intense scenes (Some in the basement, for instance) which made it quite fun to watch. It was just that, nothing more.

As for
OLDER
OLDEST - except it isn't, OLD is.

taste = pride and prejudice, anything else by her, anyother 'classy' movie that all the film critics give 5 stars to. movies with 'taste', in a word, suck.

and the ending was perfectly fine. and perfectly sensible to smart people.

and plus, you got to remember that movies are for entertainment purposes only

the movie came after HL2
In addition to the radio series, the movie was released in 1953.

Actually, reading the book and not seeing the movie might be the best option.

I concur. That's the way I went.

No one claimed the movie was played out in the 19th century, however the book was written in the late 1800s.
