i actually dont know much about 3dsmax, but have 5, and i believe it comes with tutorials...dunno how good they are tho. sorry.

DO NOT USE WINGS3D! It is a crap modeller. I think milkshape 3d is the best though. Maybe the reg code'll turn up this time!

A good site for modeling tip/tuts is www.3dcafe.com and is just one of many. It hosts tuts for Max/Lightwave/Maya and many more.
I visit it often.
