This is my fourth Source map - de_boshi has taken me 3 months and although I don't think it's my best work, it is a rather nice map and I wanted to get it out the way before I start other projects. It's set in an abandoned lab / warehouse with 2 bombsites. I believe it is more Terrorist friendly as they are quite near to bombsite B. It comes with a .nav for bots and is a rather small map. It should be played with a maximum of 10 and a minimum of 4. The architecture may seem slightly off. This map is dedicated to Adam Holt so have a great life from Will.

That was a very nice review!
I agree on all those pointers and I don't see much point on improving it because it was yet another lesson. The future maps will adapt to those pointers and I think you were very fair.

Oh and I would like to point out that the next map I make won't be advertised online until 70% is at least done. You see I showed people de_boshi when it was at 35% and it put pressure on me to finish it quickly. Anyway I learnt from my mistakes and I suggest that you to refrain from doing so to save a lot of stress.

I'm with Trapt on a lot of the points.

It has a lot of really weird detail choices, too (valves sticking from walls?) and the physics lockers are ANNOYING UP THE ASS. You also are missing corner bits on all the angle architecture in the halls which makes it look lazily done, and yeah, the spotlight fx are whored. (You can do it with one yknow, but the beams don't even come out of fluros like that [even in really dark or dusty areas]).

And yeah. Weird prop choices and placement. Just seems like a random amalgam of various props stacked in piles around a room. Doesn't really fit the theme.

Texture selection is odd, too (I like the raincheck inspiration though ;D) - The thing about the texture set is that it needs a lot of architectural detail to look proper (or at least proper proppage) - Sometimes in the corridors the flat walls look a bit odd.

I'll give yah 3 1/2 as well, but since I'm nice and we don't have half-ratings, I'll award it 4.

Very nice indeed. Your effort really shows.

+ The architecture is nice
+ I liked the use of sound -- ambient sound is something I haven't got to grips with yet very well.
+I like the layout also, it should be fun to play with others.
+The detail is good, I think it's a convincing recreation of the location you describe in the map introduction text.

- I did find the physics lockers strange - when I found them they were rocking back and forth of their own accord, which I thought was a bit wierd.

I've given it 5 stars as I would've given it 4.5 but as Rabidmonkey says we don't have half ratings.

I'd love to give this map a bash online. Any servers running it anywhere?

Well nobody likes my maps you see and this is my third online map thats never been hosted. I tend to host it for an hour and still nobody joins. Console says they join but then they leave cause dll takes too long. I would love to play this on servers and tbh it's a bit early for everyone to have seen. Maybe in a few weeks people will see it's an alright map and host it for a bit. I tend to hope this when mapping. I feel sad when no-one hosts it :(

Try playing with bots cause they're quire good and thanks for the review.

I forgot to mention that I thought the ambience was excellent. Except I don't like the water sound when there was no water running. :x

And by the way, that damn corridor really sucked. It seemed you didn't know what to put in it, so you put pipes and valves coming out of the walls, which shows lack of thought and resorting to models for detail.

And Dv8 - If you are looking for good custom source maps, I really recommend some of Rabids stuff. :P

I find Source mapping so much easier!
Every new map teaches me something I didn't know in the past.
In this map I started using ambient_generics and created a much more realistic environment :D

I think this is a good map, the ambient generics do their job well, and the map is fairly detailed.
However, I think there was little texture variation throughout the map, but it's not a big issue since it happens with dust and aztec.

The other strange thing I saw was the use of the cubemaps. It seems in one place you selected ONE cubemap and applied it to a whole bunch of faces, even though some were in hallways that had nothing to do with the lighting in the cubemap's room... I know this saves a lot of trouble with reflective surfaces, but it doesnt look quite right, what do you think?

I still don't fully understand cubemaps but back when I starte dit I knew even less and messed it up so I had to patch it up. Thanks though Kasperg, it means a lot coming from a pro mapper like you.

Very, Very nice map man, i looked at it and it was great. Detail put in the little areas, pretty little flowers, and you got the music going on the radio in the teleport room! i love it, buuuuut, there's one little problem. I noticed that in one room, three metal shelves were all lined up but they were off the ground a couple inches, just floating there! just so you might fix it or something. I like the teleporter too, gives you a frag and than makes the lightning noise, nice job with the little beams to. I couldnt find the weirdo lockers though.. Anyways, nice map man, especially since it's your third map!
