A quaint map demonstrating one simple, but limited solution to the 'Moving Ladder' thread--by gmansAgent, posted some time ago.

This is a small, evolving WIP so hush please 'bout the small flaws... ;)

Got the Idea from Daubster, who mentioned using stairs instead of a ladder, and the actual stairs/ladder from Rend0us' map: HLDM_Center.

I really wanted to use a func_pushable instead, but they're not as nicely climbable as was necessary.

Happy Mapping

Yup.
It's a door.
Definately a func_door...
Works nicely, tho..

wait a min, Rowley.
I didn't mention anything bout replacing ladders with stairs in my review for hldm_center. Twas Captain P's idea.. :)

You misunderstand I think. From the original thread by gmansAgent, you mentioned using stairs to simulate ladders briefly.

I got the Idea for the form of the ladder/staircase from the small, steep stairs in HLDM_center--which are very alike the HL ladder prefab btw.

Got it? :)

GmansAgent was me BTW,

Nice!

I already knew how, but I wanted to see a few variations of it!

This is not the way I did it!

I might make an example map for that... sometime...

Please do! If it's the func_train verison, I'd love to see it :)

It looks nice, but going down such steep stairs might be difficult.
What's next? A func_pushable that you can move around and then climb on it? It might be possible...

I tried all the differen't hull size values, in the shape of a ladder and stairs, but to no avail. It seems whatever shape you build the pushable in, it sort of puts an invisible "bounding box" around it, so you can't ascend/decend normally.

Pushing is also a problem. Of course you have to put up some sort of "rails" to keep it from pushing wildly accross the room. You also have to make the space really large, otherwise the pushable won't move.

If you have some more insight about this, please let me know ;)

Bratteh said he did it another way besisdes using pushables and door/ladders. I can't wait to see it :)

Oh and you're right, traversing the stairs downward is perilous at best!

Wasn't there a pushable and climbable ladder in Blue-Shift?
Does this ladder work by making tiny steps all the way up it textured with the nodraw texture?
