I was fortunate enough to be a beta tester on this. It is awesome! There's some tough situations to solve and a really cool sequence that propels you through the time/space continuum. Very good maps and a nice storyline. 5 stars!
Commented 20 years ago2004-03-02 13:55:40 UTC Comment #1141
Hmm. Well...it's alright. The architecture is excellent. However, I spent half the time wandering around aimlessly trying to figure out how you do some stuff. I've had to noclip a lot as well, 'cos it's so hard. Like the sniper rifle though! 3 stars at the moment, but I'm not gonna give it a final rating until I complete it.

Well I always give good scores on things but this was amazing! Good job man!

This map kicks ass!
Commented 20 years ago2004-03-05 17:54:42 UTC Comment #1158
I decided not to noclip: MUCH more fun.
Commented 20 years ago2004-03-07 01:03:11 UTC Comment #1169
I am sorry man. But I have spent probably over an hour in Elevator Level trying to figure out what to do next. I got the crowbar only by noclip because Barney wouldnt open the doors, and I also had to use noclip to get around to otehr places where there would be no other way! And Now I'm stuck here because every path leads to the same place. I have checked the whole map via noclip and have found nothing productive. 2 stars, for extreme complications.
Commented 20 years ago2004-03-07 04:07:06 UTC Comment #1173
I read and I understand but I don,t agree, the problem for you is, you have noclip!
If you do what you miss important things weapon, hev-suit and so on.

I have write a walkthrough but it still in Swedish language and I am not so good on English so it take time.
Commented 20 years ago2004-03-07 04:17:31 UTC Comment #1175
Oh. I actually did everything like getting the HEV suit. Only after that did the problem arise. I got desparate and looked around but found nothing. Eventually I just skipped it all and did a changelevel fall7g

Cheat!!!!! It's not that difficult. You just have to use your surroundings to your advantage...:D....use the ledge to reach the crowbar. It takes a while, but it's not that hard to work out.
Commented 20 years ago2004-03-09 08:43:29 UTC Comment #1188
Finally finished.
5 Days it took and what a great time I had!!!!
Well done.
Difficult, but not impossible.
No need to cheat either.
This is the essence of HL mapping.

Very nicely made but I found it kinda irritating after awhile. Jump on a tiny thin brush, jump up on the next, slip down, get stuck where four brushes meet. Quickload.
Commented 20 years ago2004-03-30 07:43:56 UTC Comment #1458
This is a pretty poor map, no one has said it yet but its actually kind of crap. The brushwork is poor the texturing is shit and the fact that none of it makes any sense drags it down. Its definitley not worth the download!

No. The brushwork and texturing is amazing! Stridr what's wrong ith you! This mod amazing! And I mean that. The only thing that let me down was its shear hardness.

You are full of it, it's horrible! Walls and architecture all look crud (paper thin walls and shitty looking cliffs) plus it all makes no sense. Also the movies are really poor as well as the puzzles plus the place looks as though it has been made to simply confuse people. IT IS BAD!
Commented 20 years ago2004-05-01 00:58:13 UTC Comment #1752
Wow dude, your going psycho! There IS a story. It tells you the stroy in the very begining of the game. I happen to think this mod is one of the most amazing custom mods I have ever seen. The game, although, isnt my style. I like blasting alien. Hence my mod. BUt this mod was simply breath taking. How long did it take to finish?

Oh man.... I played Timefall again without cheating and just let me say this:
THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST AMAZING MODS I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE. IT RANKS RIGHT UP THERE WITH POINT OF VIEW AND COUNTER LIFE! NICE NICE NICE! Sorry to spam but I am rating this 5 stars TWICE. no I am not going to rate it 5 stars 100 times, it just deserves 10 stars.
Commented 20 years ago2004-07-25 07:57:39 UTC Comment #2860
Brilliant, very hard towards the end but otherwise brill.
Commented 20 years ago2004-09-01 03:24:19 UTC Comment #3735
The first impression I got was that of mediocre visuals. Although later troughout the game some spots were nicely done, most just didn't do it for me.

The story was nicely thought of, and well implemented, although a bit more contact with allies would've made it all some more interactive, sometimes I felt it all fell down to the 'tell them with text' level. Nevertheless, you've done a good job at this compared to most mods.

Playability. Combat is decent, puzzles are too hard or barely give a clue. I often found myself wandering around, trying to figure out how this or that could be accomplished. At the start, there's not a single clue that the second window is breakable. No crack, nothing. The small entrance in the sewers towards the first computer console is just... very unobvious. No fun when the road ahead could lie anywhere else in that maze. Just a few issues with the gameplay I had during my (short) play.

Movability. I've often found myself in area's that were hard to move trough, either trough confined spaces with lots of detail brushes, or trough steep brushes. Getting out of the water was often a pain too. I felt you should've given that more attention.

The (nearly) clueless puzzles and hard movability took away much of the fun for me. I've been stuck in every level multiple times so I stopped playing. Too bad, as you are capable of finishing a project. I just think you need to give attention to these things.
Commented 20 years ago2004-09-02 05:58:32 UTC Comment #3761
I've finished Timefall now. The last part was better executed. I liked the combat more, although the last part was just 'glock-sniping' instead of some challenging smart combat. A bit more tactical environment would've been nice, something like in 'On a rail'.

The time-travel was appealing. Well done indeed. You show you can pull off some interesting entity setups and trickery, the problem often is that the player does not know what you know. I also felt some setups were buggy or not prepared for some player actions.

The mod floats somewhere between nice and unplayable. Still, it's obvious you devoted quite some time to it and that shows off.

Hello Captain and thanks for yours comment and for you play it to the end.
Yes in some case you have a good point, but in some I don't agreed. ex. in the last battle it is a puzzle to use, to get in to the front of the tank, and from that position take out the turrets.
And yes! it is a bug in "fall11k" the map there you shall drive up the APC-tank on the lift, if you start to drive up the tank to the lift and leave it to put on the power for the lift and leave the map in baktracking to "fall8h" and back again to the "fall11k". The Hatches on the APC be invisible, and I think it is the env_renders "behaviour" from map to map, over two changs_levels????
I have fix it in my orginal but when I try to do a patch the patch be near the same size as the orginal so I leave it there.
Tlax.

Simply Amazing. This is as good as it gets in the HL universe IMO. I thought this mod was more fun than HL1, hands down.

+Beautiflly textured/amazing architecture
+astounding props and machines--holy crap!!
+Challenging/fun puzzles
-some areas too small and pretty easy to get stuck.

This is one of the most amazing maps I've seen on this site. You are definitely one of our premeire members. Great Job, as always Tlax!

Im sorry but I still can't agree with the points most people have made, yes it does have story implemented, but it's poorly pulled off. The mapping is generally quite bland and ugly, i've seen better work from tlax, it all seems rushed and over-complicated. Textures dont match up (the water at the start just constantly changes colour!). I had a mate play through it who knows nothing about mapping but loves hl-mods and he wasnt too impressed with it either. Again i'm sorry but i have to do what I beleive is necessary and rate it down, 5 stars is an illusion it doesnt deserve, I dont know if it's because YOU made it or something else but people overated this map hugely.
Commented 18 years ago2006-04-20 11:41:16 UTC Comment #11547
Great mod, but some of the puzzles got a bit annoying and the gameplay felt a little restrictive, you couldn't really explore much like in the original Half Life.

+Ingenuity
+Story line
+The Puzzles
+Sniper rifle
+The tank
+The time-teleporter was a brilliant sequence

-Not enough maps after the time-teleport
-Puzzles got a bit annoying

4*

eh, i played this mod 4 times, and, to be honest, i did not like it very well. From the start, i did not understand the story, and i never got any hint of the story in the rest of the game. If i may compare this mod to "lifes end" on this site, i would point out how you really knew your character in "lifes end", from getting fired by the boss, to your character thinking out loud, it really gave you a sense of who you were playing as, and giving you a reason to progress, and protect your character. I did not get the same feeling in timefall, i literally forgot the characters name by the end.

The combat was not all that good, the fights with the aliens were the same thing every time, and the army fights were not implemented in a strategic combat way.

The sniper rifle, while a good idea, was poorly implemented. I noticed that, upon firing the rifle, it took a 2 second delay to hit medium to far away targets, and i realized that this, was because it was just a remodel of the crossbow! - 1 star for that, that really dissapointed me.

The architecture, was repetitive, and boring, and some things just didnt make sense. The texturing was dull, but that wasnt very bad.

The puzzles, gah, the puzzles really annoyed me. They were the same thing over and over, look around for a paper thin ledge, and follow it, open a door, backtrack, activate something, progress. :/

And really, i expected this NOT to be in a mod as highly reviewed as this, the barney said "open fire gordon", now i may have forgotten the characters name, but i know for a fact that it was not gordon. :/ -1 star

This also disapointed me, getting the crowbar, and the shotgun, BEFORE the HEV. Yet you could see the HEV sleeves on your player, thats just not right. - 1/2 star

The only things i really liked, was the time travel sequence, and the clever parts where you saw gordon.

This mod was much less than i expected it to be, i was really disapointed. 2.5 stars, rounds to 3.

Commented 14 years ago2010-12-22 02:37:54 UTC Comment #18689
AT, your gripe (sniper delay) - is a code related thing. Anyone who cannot code cannot change the way the sniper works, it will always be a crossbow.

Your other gripes (hev sleeves and "open fire gordon") both require resources outside of Hammer and mapping, such as modeling and sound editors, which mapping alone cannot change. I just thought it was kinda unfair to rate down on things that he can't change/fix, but oh well players don't really delve into that right. Strictly speaking, we actually should only rate it based on its mapping (which I thought was pretty impressive)

Absolutely terrible.

-Extremely poor texture work
-Architecture was bland, mostly felt like a bunch of ramps and blocks put together to form what is supposed to be a cliff side
-Architecture was so poorly structured I often found myself getting 'stuck' on completely flat land, grates often didn't open properly so I assumed they weren't functional and were just there for visual interest.
-Storyline was also bland, uninteresting
-Poor English
-No visual clues as to what the fuck you're supposed to do, I literally only got an idea of how to do the first 2 clues because of previous mentionings from members. Impossible to play unless you have already played it before or are told exactly what to do

+Some decent lighting setup
Commented 6 years ago2018-01-09 05:52:42 UTC Comment #21223
This was — and I feel like it's fair to be hard on it, because there's lots of good points about it — fucking terrible.

Don't get me wrong, the design throughout is pretty good. Some areas are blander than others, but it's clear a lot of work went into this.

It's a shame the direction is so much less clear. Have fun figuring out where to go when every path looks the same, when every door looks the same but only some of which open, when scripted_sequences fail to fire until long after they should have, when the path ahead is tiny and obscured and completely nonsensical, when you have to move a filing cabinet that in no way give you the impression you can move it, when a pivotal sequence in the plot is just plain broken and you have to change the level manually... and so on.

And the slow, plodding walls of text you can't skip are a travesty.

It's such a shame, because it could be so much better.
