Just wondering what the TWHL community thought about everything paranormal (this type of thread has probably been done before but this is the now not the past). In the 'Fears' thread theres been mention of Spontanious Combustion and the Bloody Mary game (by me), im very fasinated and creeped out by paranormal ideas, ive looked up some info on this type of stuff and it's quite interesting and shocking to think about.

This idea called HUMAN DIAMAGNETISM GRAVITY ANTENNA LEVITATION for instance is gaining scientific recognition recently, it involves magnetic points on the earth and using the human body as 'antenna' to counter gravity and levitate any mass ( including objects too heavy to lift by human muscle ). Whilst it's all pathetically scepticle and almost all unproven its still very interesting.

So... what do you all think about the paranormal, or have you had any... odd experiences? :

Ive just thought of another one! Somewhere overseas i hear that long ago they found strange hoof-type prints around an old town, and leading on for miles, they were'nt normal as seeing how they went horizontally along some walls and were found melted into roofs and metal walkways... fanatics beleived satan trudged through the town in search of sinners or something i think (it's been a while since i heard of this and my memory may be off a little).

I don't beleive in any of the things on that site, really.
Accept what they call "Alien Rods".
my brother told me about it after he had science class, and they do exist.
No one knows what it is but, I'm sure it got nothing to do with aliens.

Though, this whole paranormal thing really makes you think sometimes. :o

size matters not...

More paranormal events:
1) Moving Coffins - some tomb in oistens bay (wherever that is) is constantly opened to find the tombs scattered haplessley across the ground, they are stacked back propaly and the tomb is sealed. Authority members come back later open the tomb to find coffins scattered again... constantly.
2) The sinking of the titanic is supposedly linked to 'the curse of the mummy' :quizzical:
3) People vanishing into thin air - infront of people. Reports that people see people just dissapear mid-movement into a haze of red dust, especially around one particluar rock formation at Macedon called 'Hanging Rock'. Four girls and a french teacher went missing from there, two girls were later 'returned'. Another dissaperance in a crammed airport - a girl and her nanny dissapear, a strange women tells the mother to pray for there safety and they are renturned, oddly they were stuck to eachother and had to be pulled apart, nanny went mad  . One more of a couple in a hotel almost sucked into the floor, but manage to escape out the window and flee.

i love this type of shit..

That's where you're wrong.
A small thing like that couldn't have a big brain.
A brain in needed to build things, and sinse we are very smart creatures, and we got a brain as mig as a, uh, very small television?... well, anyways, not even we can build a rocket and visit our closest star.
I believe that it is imposselbe to travel to other stars be cause the closest one is 4 lightyears away, and nothing can travel in the speed of light, exept light itself.

What a load, if there were such things they would be well documented and everyone would know it was real because it would of been proven.

Ghosts? - Biggest and oldest load ever.

Aliens? - We know life exists on other planets, but traveling to our planet? GTFO!

Deamons/demons? - Utter bullshit.

100% of all reported Ghosts, Aliens or Paranormal activities are 1 of three things.

1: Hoax.

2: Somones imagination playing tricks on them / misreading the situation.

3: Somone making up bullshit for whatever reason.

No, a game is fantasy, we know its fantasy because the people who made it intended it to be that way. Just because its "set" in reality doesnt make it "possibly real" or grounds for any such statements.

Half-Life is designed to be fun, do you think everyone who bought half-life and liked it belived in aliens? Maybe some of the people who didnt like it were like "OMG Aliens! This is bullshit!" and threw the game away? -no.

Ok the big argument for aliens is that the universe is infinate ergo theres infinate possibiltys. but noone thinks of two things:
1. It COULD be infinate nothing. its just an unimaginably small chance.
2. We would be aliens to other lifeforms. We went from early hot air ballons to interplanatary space travel in just a centuary. Humans learn pretty fast. I think its far more likely that WE are the ones who make contact with another alien planet - if any exist. However I supremely hope that dosnt happen, Humans have a habit of royaly fucking up things they discover.

3. the universe might not be infinate.

as for ghosts and stuff, well none knows what happens whenyou die so you cant discredit it. deamons = bull though.

ARG Damn it, you say HL is fantasy - that is how you should look at Paranormality, it is how i enjoy it. I doubt all of its credibility highly, but i look at it for fun much as i play HL for fun. Same dif, and dont go saying no its not because one is set in reality and one isnt, hl presents an idea thought up in reality - paranormal things are thought up/of and have supposedly occured in reality! But still im not saying i beleive in any of it.

Oh and ChickenFist that Spontaneous combusty link you posted doesnt explain shit, most reported cases are found with just the top and bottom extremeties (scalp and feet) intact with internal organs blasted up into the top remains. Clothes are relatively untouched as are the surroundings. Still, the validity of spontaneous combustion in general is low.

well, there was actually an experiment set up, due to a guy who said he could teleport.
They locked him in a windowless room, with only a couple of vents barely big enough for a cockroach to fit through and then stood outside the door.

they didn't have to wait for long, and the man would meet them outside the door without explanation. However, he apparantly did it once too often as he vanished without a trace.

What I think he means is, they set up the convention, hoping that time travellers would appear to get together... lol...

yeah but surly time travelling to the past would be illegal.

and also, going back intime in theory would make an alternate dimension so this dimension could be the one where time travel is invented.
Posted 18 years ago2006-01-18 19:47:31 UTC Post #158541
The Bloody Mary game isn't real, there is no Bloody Mary. You look into the mirror and see yourself. You think you see Mary because its dark and your mind is distorting your sight making it look like something you are expecting to see.

Time travel into the past is more than likely impossible for a simple story that I think Newton told. If time travel was ever invented, EVER, in any point in time eventually someone would have screwed up and gotten caught by someone from the past. Since this never happened, time travel is/was never succefully created.
On that note i'd also like to think that Jesus is a timetraveller who went back in time from the distant future with a pair of anti-liquid boots (to walk on water) and material-changer ray (to change water into wine). He He he
Jesus, a time traveller? He's the son of God, nobody would just travel back in time have some random anti-liquid boots and use a material changing ray to change water to wine. Its pointless. And if he was a time traveller he wouldn't have let the people slap him up on a cross and get nails driven into his wrists and ankles. he would have travelled back.

I believe the universe is not infinite. Infinite is just something that doesn't make sense when it comes to physical matter. there cannot be an infinite amount of space out there because there would also be an infinite amount of matter, resulting in an infinite amount of energy which cannot happen. I believe the universe is massive, indeed, but it loops itself if you will. Kinda like in puzzle games where you go from one end of a puzzle dungeon and that end takes you back to the start. Once you reach the edge of the universe you are back at the other end. of course... whats outside the universe?

I believe in ghosts to some extent, that's all I have to say on that.

Aliens exist, its impossible for Earth to be the only planet in the whole universe that supports life and everyone knows it. But for them to have the technology to reach us would have to be unbelievably advanced. there's always the possibility that they were in space for several years and finally reached us after a long wait, however that would still be a looooooooong wait.

What i said i said mockingly. Besides if so i could find one reason he would go back in time - to invent christianity, to give the future a less bleak outlook because christianity though as false as i think it is has had many positive results.
You really shouldn't throw the word "impossible" around, fellas.

I think that it is impossible to defy logic. 4 + 4 = 8 no matter how hard you try to change that.

We can travel to the future, but not to the past. There is no possible energy source capable of changing every atom of the universe to a previous condition of our choice. Because if you travelled back in time, the whole universe would have to change. Not just Earth and its places.
If we accept the fact that: matter is transformed (not created or destroyed), then we know that matter does not exist in multiple dimensions. It just changes in one.

I believe Jahzel said it best, you can do anything if you believe it. If you believe, strongly enough, that there're yellow monkeys under your bed (I mean - really fanatically "know" they're there") your mind will put them there. It's just a matter of believing and perception.

Who said blue is blue? Maybe the colour I see as blue is yellow to you, and the other way around.

Zomg I wrote a big reply and it all dissapared so I'll make a shorter one..
I think that it is impossible to defy logic. 4 + 4 = 8 no matter how hard you try to change that.
False, you can pwn maths in this universe.
For example, I'll use the speed of light again.
300 000 is the speed of light,
and maths says that 300 000 / 2 = 150 000.
Of course it is, but not always.
If you travel away from a star in half of the speed of light facing away from the star in vacuum, the light from the start will still pass you with the old speed, 300 000 km/h, and not just 150 000 km/h.
Therefor, in this case 300 000 / 2 = 300 000. :o

[/quote]
Nothing is impossible, we just don't know how to do it.

Edit:
If you believe strongly enough that you can fly and do jump out of the window, you'll fly, your mind'll make it so. But then again, your mind makes the window, the ground below and the landscape around you aswell.
