My chapter in Hostage Situation is pretty much finished, so i decided to persue an idea that i half-had and that rimrook half-had.
I had been planning to do a sequel to "NightShift" for ages, and I had the idea of using Gyradell textures for a strange, abandoned office block a very long time ago. But then, after i made the Tribute to Rimrook map, rimrook posted the following comment. Now i feel inspired to do an office complex all gyradell style. :D
And the idea came rushing back to me. So I persued it, creating my own textures & sounds, hiring a voice actor and researching as much info as i could on Gyradell. Well, eventually i got a decent story and started mapping. It should be finished soon.

More Media Soon.

By The way, dont expect this to be another Hostage Situation. Its just gonna be a little mini-mod. 3-4 maps

I know i dont have many map screenshots, but that is because they are all in very early stages and i dont want them judged yet.
I sorta noticed that there were none showing off Rimrook's textures, but dont worry. They will come

/extract from the script i gave to the voice actor i hired.
This is the first thing you hear when you play gyradell invasion... Its in a dank room with Bob lecturing you

File 1 -
______________________________________________________
"Hello Gordon...
<pause>

Heh, still the strong and silent type, i see.
Well, that's probably a good thing, because you're gonna have to listen, and listen hard to what I have to say... It won't be repeated and all documents regarding the matter have been destroyed.

<Sigh> I'm starting to think it was a bad idea dragging you back into this, but hey. I don't have a choice anymore so here I go.

Roughly 17 hours ago, all comunication with a Top Secret Science Installation funded by the military was lost. The facility was known as the Sigma Complex. It specialised in teleportation. Yes, i know what you're thinking and it was indeed much like the Lambda complex. The only difference was that Sigma had been running for a long time before Black Mesa even reached design stages. The border world you know of as 'Xen' is in fact not the only world on the same dimensional plane as us. There is another. 'Gyradell.'
The last message we recieved from the installation was a routine check-in, however, they did seem rather excited. Apparantly a breakthrough had been made.

I'm not going to tell you anymore about the nature of the installation. It's need-to-know only.

Don't worry about this little assignment. You only need to go in and determine if there is a hostile environment or not. If so, radio back to us and we'll pull you out and send in air strikes. It's the only thing we can do.
If everything goes to plan, you won't see any action, but just in case, you'll be equipped with your H.E.V and a 9mm firearm.

You'll be inserted by Osprey at the main depot gate. A truck will be sent to pull you out when you radio back. Any questions?
<pause>
Didn't think so."

the only thing that confused me is that if the alien_slave is mutated.How does its collar change its colour?

Well the story sounds good, apart from one thing.
Don't worry about this little assignment. You only need to go in and determine if there is a hostile environment or not. If so, radio back to us and we'll pull you out and send in air strikes. It's the only thing we can do.
This sounds silly, why would you send in a spcialist just to recon the area? And if there is some hidden plot behind it to get gordon stuck in there, its very obvious to the player. You should revise this part, the millitary doesnt send in rouge physicists to scout out a base.

Perhaps have him sent in because there forces have been unable to gain access to the base? Saying that the Xen creatures are blocking off the ways in? Anything, but telling somone they have to go in just to see if there are enemies there and then if there are that they will be pulled out is just stupid. And dogs body could walk in, look around, and walk out again.
Posted 18 years ago2006-03-11 14:40:20 UTC Post #167746
Well, the player doesnt know that there are Xenians in the base... The colonal never tells you... So the 'our troops cant get in' thing wont work. I figured it would be because
It specialised in teleportation. Yes, i know what you're thinking and it was indeed much like the Lambda complex.
And gordon would know what he was doing

It's the type of thing that happens in millions of movies... you know 'send in the specialist' and Gordon's proven himself. Seems fine to me.

I tried the first map and I loved the intro camera set-up as it reminds of a certain game I shant mention...

Skins are pretty tight! But yeah...The collar on the Slave shouldn't change...I know it seems to most people that you were lazy and didn't change the collar but at least it makes sense.

well, sorry but the collar stays :)

not that i cant take constructive critisism, its just the dark green collar looks shit with the glowy green radioactive waste beside it
