This is a mocap based face poser application for XSI. It looks so real that it scares you.

I didn't think you could buy the Love of Christ...

Sure you can, many preists will give their Blessing if you'll pay them. If you'll meet Christ try to buy his love too. The problem is preists demand a very high sum so just think how much Christ will want! :badass:

Heh, the real funny thing is this is another prime example of the TWHL community getting off the point. What was this thread about again? ;)

Well, the technology is nothing new. Its a process called Universal Capture if I recall correctly. The CGI guys working on the Matrix created it.

Exactly what I was about to say, it has been used many times in a lot of films, its nothing new. And to be honest if you cant tell the difference between CGI and Actual footage (which, granted, is getting more and more difficult these days) there is somthing wrong with you.

so thats why the third matrix film was an advert for maya/max

Why? Only someone who has ever done 3d modelling and knows what to look for can really tell that something is unreal, that or because the scene would be impossible to do in real life. Theres a lot of times in the movies where they have actually done a scene on green screen and I thought it was entirely CGI rendered so you have to give them some credit.

and of course this thread went off the point, where was it going to go??

I disagree, unless somthing is proper job proffesionaly done, you can easily tell that its CGI. Not from what it is or how its set, but just from looking at it. Things done in CGI dont look real because usually they are too perfect, no indescrepencies, no non symetrical marks, perfectly even lighting, a lack of all movement etc. Usually from looking at somthing you can see if its CGI or not.

As I said unless its proffessionally done, like in Gladiator. That Guy who plays the slave owner who 'buys' maximus died half way through the film, so the last few parts with him in it were done with CGI. Its so well done you cant notice that its not real.

dont get me started on gladiator, film of a thousand fx mistakes

Character movement is usually the biggest give-away for CGI, when its a physically impossible feat then no matter how well they try to keyframe it, it always looks unrealistic. Saying that, where there is little movement involved like in the final part of spiderman 2 where dococ falls away into the water, I was completely unaware the ENTIRE scene was CGI, I honestly thought it was a greenscreen character with cgi elements.

Most of the time (and I'm using Star Wars Episode 1 as an example here) if you check the feet of characters you can see how it doesn't blend in properly. Don't ask me why, but although the droids and Jar Jar (shudder) looked fairly realistic, if you looked at their feet, they didn't quite mesh with the ground right.

I agree with Jobabob. It always seems there is "too much" movement in a CGI render of people. Their clothing, arms, hair, and movement have way too much activity then it should be. It still looks better than some makeup, or conventional non-CGI techniques.

Do they have anything close to that for free download?

And then when you look at Spiderman when he's swinging around the streets, it looks quite terrible.

I seriously did not notice that, that's quite amazing if it manages to fool you like that.

Erm, considering there's a fair bit of hardware involved, I'd think not.
