Right, my hammer 3.5 is not working, and hunter hasnt came to fix it yet.. so i thought hey i could install HL2 and source SDK and get working on that... problem is my pc specs are ok... until it comes to the graphics card. Half life 2 takes FOREVER to load up and jumps in-game... i was wondering is it worth installing it and being able to map for it, or not. Oh and if anyone knows of a way where i could make it run smoother... please tlel me :D

Hammer 4 is harder on the resources than HL2 is. :(

If you struggle with HL2, making anything more than a tiny map will be awkward, unless you are ultra, ultra effecient with your texturing and visgroups.

In Hammer lower the CTRL Z (Undo) Memory to allow Hammer to run smoother and if it takes ages then really thats a matter of opinion. IF you are desperate to map then go ahead.

I found that my success has come from Source..HL1 tought me a lot.

let me guess - bout 5fps on lowest settings! ;)

just upgrade your graphics card - if moneys an issue - you can pick up a budget card that will still do the trick -

Radeon 9200 SE
Sapphire 9550

etc. these cards are bout ?40 retail - nothing stupid - and will definately allow you to play HL2 stable.

However, if your maps are likely to be a LOT less complex - then it could be OK, its just down to how long it takes your maps to load - hopefully far shorter. Otherwise, no, its not worth mapping for HL2, you will kill yourself - end of story! :D
