For those of you who have an interest in computer simulators, check out these screenys of upcoming FS. Some serious pwnage! This is gonna be one hell of a game - apparently improved by having Vista?! strange! but anyway, just wondered if any1's into sims, car, train, etc, etc, coz this game is using same sort of technology for ground maps, etc, so more highly detailed, and WAY more relistic.

especially look at the one of a town near the bottom / middle. Looks like a real developed town!

EXCELLENT SCREENSHOTS

some of you may think its stupid - but me love!!!

Now why can't other games have such beautiful environments like this?
Never really played a simulator but they look like fun...Oh actually I remember playing a demo where you flew planes and fought..It was pretty realistic.

Those are really nice screenies...

BTW, are those pre-rendered backgrounds, or is it brushwork? Ive never played Flight sims before, so I dont know. What would the system specs be for that?

yeah, im pretty addicted to sims, although you need a good computer to be able to enjoy the graphics. I usually play FS2004 on 3/4 graphics, and get bout 40fps, but any higher graphics and you get lag... and like rps, thats the last thing you want when bout to land on a 2foot runaway in crosswinds!!! :P

i've got

Combat Simulator
Flight Simulator
Racer Simulator
Train Simulator
Motorboat Simulator
Trainz Railroad Simulator
Orbiter Simulator!!

lame, i know! :nervous:

Some of those screenies look atrocious, the ones with towns or cities in particular.

The landscape screenies look great though, with sweeping mountains. :]

WAT! if you compare the screenys to that of FS2004, the difference is massive! fs2004 just used random ground mapping, this looks like real photo mapping - and if your complaining about resolution - imagine the size of the game if the textures where 512x512!

Dude, just look at image 10 :P

And several of the other town/city pics, the ground is so low res, the houses look like they are floating. ;D

Looks amazing, but the water doesn't reflect the world. It's most blatant in the shots with the cruise ship and the dock.

I used to play FS95. I know it's a long time ago, but I just don't feel it's all that fun flying an airplane around for hours straight. Flying is an endurance test for me. The shorter the flight, the better.

I would much rather shoot people in the head than fly a plane peacefully.

I've never tried flight simulators meself. Do those games even have goals or do you just... fly around?
Posted 18 years ago2006-04-14 20:25:13 UTC Post #174383
There are goals (i.e. land at a certain airport in certain conditions and so on). I played 2003 and I found it rather tedious. Unless you're interested in these sort of games, and you're willing to put in time, you'll find it horribly boring.

apparently in fsx, there are going to be real missions, where you will be told whether you succeded or not - unlike previous versions. this should be far more fun - not that I ever completed missions more than 1hour long! and just imagine- -

'you're on a long haul flight (real) to New York, sudddenly, terrorists take over the plane! OH NO!!!! They shoot they pilot, BANG, BANG!!! Then, out of nowhere, a large black man in aisle 4 leaps at one of the terrorists, knockin him unconcious. He takes his gun, and rambo style, takes out EVERY terrorist on the plane! But wait, there's no pilot.
"is there anyone here that can fly a plane?"

And to that you jump up, and scream -

"Nah"

    YOU CAN SAVE LIVES!!!!!

ANTI-TERRORIST PILOTS FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A mixture.

I love Flight Sims. I'll try and take my PC to uni with me so I can play this :).

The F.A.Q states the game will come out on DVD, but I suspect it will more than just one disk. Any idea of how much drive space you need to install it?
I haven't played any FSims since Flight Simulator 98.
Even if it sounds boring for some, I think it could be a fun alternative to searching for places in Google Earth.

Please, let microsfot remove the horrible bell effect, allow use to create native multiple engines on heli's and turbine ones. And, i dont want to be required to move my collective back to 20% for a autorotation, hence the name.

Dang, just a small part of my wishlist. Oh well, lets hope microsoft listens to the community. Hell, feul flow would be nice to see working to. And offcourse, rotorwash, groundeffect.......

Kasperg, flightsimulator 9(2004) was already 4 cd's big. So it might take more then one dvd. Drive space? Somewhere around 10/20 gigs i'd say.
Posted 18 years ago2006-04-16 05:10:02 UTC Post #174566
yeah, why the hell was it realeased of CDS!!!! its so annoying having to change disks every time you install (i a speed freak, ie, regular formatting and reinstalling)
Posted 18 years ago2006-04-16 05:39:46 UTC Post #174568
Well, most simmers have a seperate drive for flightsimulator. Atm i got 504 aircraft installed. So it takes up quite the bit of space.

I think they did it because in 03 not everybody had a dvd drive.

10/20 gigs...?

Are you serious?
Posted 18 years ago2006-04-16 08:03:15 UTC Post #174588
i'm dead serious. Some 3rd party airplanes already easily reach 1/2 gigabytes. Let alone a detailed scenery of the whole western and eastern hemisphere.

Christ, that is a incredibly large game.
