Did anyone notice the Half-Life 2 fix in the last Steam update (on April 19th)? Does anyone know what it means?

"Fixed bug where NPCs would ignore hintbrushes that should block line of sight"

I am just curious.

Sounds like an awareness glitch. bots were aware of a player when they should not be able to see them.

Bots always know if your there, even if your walking and making no sound, as if they can here your breath

@Dead Meat: Scary, in a way. :P

I think that there is a brush which blocks the sight of the NPC, and it didn't, and now they've fixed it.
Am I wrong? :S

Hint brushes divide the leafs right?

So when your in one room the rest are un-rendered...Well bots ignored this and could see you in every corner of the map.

That's only for manual VISing.

So why would hintbrushes affect NPC's? It's not as if the engine renders the scene for each NPC also. That's why I don't understand the update message.

Hintbrushes only affect the player's vantage point, because it simplies rendering. It shouldn't have anything to do with NPC's.

Imagine you are the player. You can only see the things you can see with gl_wireframe 1.
Imagine you are the bot. You can see everything you can see with gl_wireframe 2.

They probably solved a problem where hintbrushes were not working properly, and bots could see even more than they were supossed to.

Maybe the bots are actual players from the Valve team that are paid to pretend :

Hahahahah.

satchy, they've got to base the bot's ability to see on some feature of the map. Evidently it's at least partially based on visibility leaves.

Finally, that makes sense. Thanks everyone.
