ok this is my first time playing with light_spot, and what im tryign to do is have a dark room accept for 1 light beam coming up from the ground lighing up a crystal. but the whole room is light (liek when you have no light effects) so obviously the light effect doesnt work lol

You want a light ray...

Light_spot makes a circle of light on the floor.

You want point_spotlight which makes a ray of light and the colour you choose.

nice thats light is prefect, but ...

Level unlit, setting 'mat_fullbright 1' << i think this is the main problem

Yeah...Right your map needs to have one light or RAD which is used to calculate the lighting will not work and thus your map will be 'un-lit' or as well Mappers call 'Fullbright'.

So put a light somewhere in the map...

check that you have no leaks. This sounds like a leak problem.

Point_Spotlight isn't considered as a light to the Source engine for some reason (I think). So just add a normal Light entity somewhere and it should fix that mat_fullbright problem.
