What I don't get is why they became full of errors. My method of twisting a level of brushes by 10 degrees and lining up the bottom verteces obviously isn't what the guy used. I must know how he did that. This proves that it's possible, but he did it some other way. Grr
Posted 17 years ago2006-06-28 13:29:56 UTC Post #187341
Are you using teh CTRL-M thingie to rotate?

If you try to rotate too many complex objects, hammer craps and creates lots of invalid errors. If this is the case, just free rotate, and shore up with VM.

Ugh that would take HOURS upon HOURS to do by hand. I guess this guy is patient enough. I'm not :D
Posted 17 years ago2006-06-28 14:38:25 UTC Post #187344
It's got to be simpler than that... we just haven't figured it out yet ;)
Posted 17 years ago2006-06-28 15:35:44 UTC Post #187347
The twisty thing is a default object in max.

6000 epolies from that screenshot. that's lots of models.

Its pure Eye candy. I think this guy is trying to get into college or something. This would look awsome in a portfolio.

VERY VERY NICE, nonetheless.

ya, its a model. It can't be done in hammer without killing yourself

although I think I will continue to try

I already thaught it was a model, only a 10 sec job, create a pilar, subdivde by 10, rotate each division 36 degree. and done you are.
Posted 17 years ago2006-06-28 17:10:32 UTC Post #187363
It's not a model! There is no models in that map... Check the rar by yourself!
Posted 17 years ago2006-06-28 17:40:54 UTC Post #187364
It took this post 4 pages to realize its a model???
Posted 17 years ago2006-06-28 17:46:54 UTC Post #187365
For me its 2 pages...

It's not a model... Rednik is right, there aren't any models in the zip, so that's not a possibility.

I assume its possible with VM, just very tedious and unnecessary.

Modeling it however would take about 2 minutes. That seems to be the most logical answer.
Posted 17 years ago2006-06-28 18:09:29 UTC Post #187374
I even compiled it without ANY errors, unlike VOX.

Goddamn it. How comew something intricate like that is doable in Hammer 3.4/5 w/o any errors (ie it's smooth, not jagged), bUt I can't do a simple sloped, 90 degree turning ramp in my Source maps?!?! We Sourcers need our own version of HLFix.

Source mapping and HL mapping are the same when it comes to VM. You must be VM'ing your brushes incorrectly.....

Show us the map srry, I want to see how you did it. Please? lol

Okay, I'll package it up and put it into an example map... As soon as I finish cleaning out the fridge for my Mom... :zonked:

Actually, I won. I just didn't split the wedges correctly :D
Posted 17 years ago2006-06-29 08:37:16 UTC Post #187449
Well, your pilar makes a 45 degree rotation, mine makes a 180 degree rotation and has an arch. It may be smaller, but ah well.

What do you think?
The Mad Carrot The Mad CarrotMad Carrot
Posted 17 years ago2006-06-29 08:46:42 UTC Post #187452
Although it probably does twist 180 degrees, it doesn't look like it. Intead of a twisted arch it look like it was carved from stone or something. But it might just be the wireframe that makes me think that.
Posted 17 years ago2006-06-29 08:49:09 UTC Post #187454
I also added a little zig-zag effect like this:

Also, mine is based on simple cubes, not wedges. Check out: http://www.themightyatom.nl/downloads/180_deg_pilar.rmf. This is just the pilar, no arch.

Sigh, why make it that smooth? 4 or three segments will do fine, no need for 3000. Post a screeni in wireframe mode, that will be more helpfull to people.

Nice Muzzie!

You should put it in the vault and add a quick walkthrough, because I'm too lazy to figure out exactly how you did it ;)

VOX: Add yours to the vault...It would be interesting to see how your method differs from the rest of ours, too.

Elon: Where's yours, BITCH?! ^_^
