Are all laptop drives - of this century, intercompatible. Can you just rip anyone out and replace it with another - of any sort? I know it may not look right, as many laptops employ smooth designs on the sides and most drives are plain, but is it possible - like the enclosures of a desktop PC?

I know its a lame question, but I don't do laptops.... i'm a desktop man. Just helping out a potential customer!!

I believe most laptops use standard 2.5" forms, mostly (P)ATA. Check the laptop's documentation.

i don't have the laptop. however, I will ask him if that's the size of his drive - if he knows. Laptops just confuse me!

Ya gotta watch when replacing Laptop drives though....some lesser known companies use proprietary connectors to make you buy through them

laptop hard drives are all the same. Only thing you need to be aware of, with any PC, is that older BIOS will only recognize a certain size drive. ex: my PC's motherboard will recognize any hard drive less than 160GB. anything over that and the BIOS will not recognize it. Sometimes there are utilities that split the partition down, or into 2 partitions, and sometimes BIOS's can be flashed to read newer technology.
