Looks FAKE!!! Had halo 2 music stabs, crap sounds extracted from HL1, and the quality and movie frames looked low budget, and extrapolated from a 3rd party source.

Anyway, FAKE FAKE FAKE!!!

:)

It's an interesting idea I suppose, but Half-Life just doesnt seem like movie material - It would consist of killing zombies and bosses. I would much rather do that in a game, for obvious reasons.

On the note of favorite kinds of Half-Life related movies, I love the GMod movies where they have an overly-elaborite contraption to do somthing simple; I remember spending hours one day watching clip after clip and realizing I had spent over an hour and a half watching them. Good stuff :D .
Posted 17 years ago2006-09-12 22:37:39 UTC Post #196407
we've known that for a while

its by a film student btw, on a very low budget.

Uwe is massive and bassicly beats the crap out of the kid
Posted 17 years ago2006-09-12 23:35:31 UTC Post #196408
That looks like an Uwe Boll made Half-Life move...far from the original idea. If a HL movie is going to be made, a carefully and faithful approach must be takin'.

It's the same, as that rumour, that Tarrantino was going to make a HL movie.
It's 100% fake.
Even the special effects in HL would cost millions, not to mention the costumes, stunts, etc.
It'd be a pretty damn huge project and a risk for the studio, since there wouldn't be any other audience, besides the gamers, who'd watch the movie.

Well there is a Halo movie in the works and everybody knows it. Halo would be a much bigger budget than a Half Life movie but they are still making it. See, the reason why people don't make a HL movie is because it would suck.

That and Valve doesn't like any of the scripts Hollywood have turned out.

Yeah, they would have to edit it from the actual game alot, otherwise it would be just like watching 3rd-person Half-Life with better graphics, and worse graphics depending on some of their special effects.

HL isn't like Doom 3, or Halo. It has a much more interesting storyline and is overall much more original..
While HL wouldn't be the best choise for a movie - HL2 (with some extra crap added) would be quite good, if executed properly.

halflife 1 and 2 were played entirely in the first person, it cannot be turned into a good film

Well judging by Doom's movie - that's, what you should expect, if they were actually going to make something like that..

About the trailer - it was pretty well made.. You could consider it being real possible, if it was longer, had a soundtrack and some better sounds.

Why don't you link to the YouTube page with the video instead? Should work with all browsers. Haven't read the whole thread, so I dunno if anyone's mentioned it.

About the trailer, it's pretty well-made to have been made by students. I mean, I've tried film making, more or less serious, it aint easy. A HL movie'd fail, like all movies based on games do.

Ya I thought it was rather well made but the character as Freeman threw it of the tracks.

Anyone who thinks a Half Life movie would "own", either doesn't take life very seriously, or can be out-smarted by a bean.

The actor will be pelted as he would have no lines what so ever. Character interaction would be minimal.
All game-films so far have failed miserably, no exceptions.

If VALVe made this, it would be their worst decision since giving "Blue-Shift" the go-ahead.

This video greatly reduced my faith in the decency of mankind.

Half-Life is already good at story telling in game. If they make a script it should be reserved for H-L 3 [5 years from now :P].

A movie doesnt need a big budget to look good. example, the matrix. The matrix one was done on a smaller budget. but the matrix 2 and 3 had more money to work with, loaded it with special effects and made it look gay. a lot of the older methods are almost always better [with the exception of stop motion]. The only things that would look gay on a low budget would be things that cant be done well in costumes [headcrabs, bullsquid, houndeye though bullsquid and houndeyes arent seen anymore].

As far as half life the movie being nothing more than a guy shooting zombies and bosses. . . Thats why they would have a writer do the story, not a mapper. A story can be as deep and complex as it wants. even in the half life universe [especially working off the hl2 style of story].

Some people who posted are quite knowledgeable in video/filmography. too bad they didnt address the issue people seem to have with the story/budget.

and yes its fake, and no it was never meant to be passed off as real.
Posted 17 years ago2006-09-13 13:45:20 UTC Post #196441
something akin to Blue Shift could work: a bunch of sci's and a Barney fighting for survival in post-disaster Black Mesa, with Gordon doing just a short cameo role.
Posted 17 years ago2006-09-13 15:25:40 UTC Post #196448
Or the seven hour war. That'd make some cool action scenes. Raar alien battles!!
Posted 17 years ago2006-09-13 16:21:22 UTC Post #196450
you dont even know anything about the seven hour war yet, i bet at the end of episode 3 you'll be about to find out the truth when freeman will wake up back at black mesa and say 'boy what a dream, golly gosh'
Posted 17 years ago2006-09-13 16:27:42 UTC Post #196453
Half life has the full potential to be successful. When making a movie about an idea you don't have to follow the damn idea all the way, the movie wouldn't be about a guy shooting aliens and bosses you idiots. It would be about the plot of half-life.

wanna know how to make a HL movie?

keep shifting the camera to different characters, show some side stories like urbs fan fiction and the 7 hour war. and always find an excuse to have gordan not talk, when he needs to he can just use facial expression or just imply that he was going to reply and shift the camera to a different scene.

done well it would be great.

but it would have to be done very well, and with a competant CG team
Posted 17 years ago2006-09-13 18:08:19 UTC Post #196458
well the trailer was well made for students though the lacked mr. video/radio voice. "this summer prepare fopr double the action!!! etcetc. same crap repeated for each movie over andover again"
that would give it a professional touch.

as for a movie gargs idea seems ok but people whove never played the game before wouldnt understand. Also some people who did play the game would go and act like dicks making it bad cause you never hear him talk :

While HL wouldn't be the best choise for a movie - HL2 (with some extra crap added) would be quite good, if executed properly.
There's one character that sticks throughout the game. Alyx pops in for a while then goes away again and its just Gordon again. The main character (Gordon) would have next to no communication with any othre character in the movie and those that he did talk to would be mere side characters that he will never see again. And if they DID give him a permanent side kick or something then it would take away from who Gordon is. Plus the mere fact that they would have to make Gordon talk in the first place is a bad idea, thus making a movie a bad idea. Flying duck pretty much said it before me.
The only possible game from Valve that has movie potential is Opposing Force, but come on. Nobody would see it because Gordon doesn't play a lead role in it.
Posted 17 years ago2006-09-13 19:11:16 UTC Post #196460
I could crap out a better trailer than that, jeez

A couple scenes were partially almost ok. Sweet idea, but very poorly implemented :(
Posted 17 years ago2006-09-13 19:29:46 UTC Post #196462
Oh yeah, and one more reason why half-life will likely never be a movie is because gordon doesnt have a voice... wich ups his coolness factor because his voice pleases everyone. make him sound normal and "hes too wimpy" make him sound gruff "pfft just like all the others." make him say nothing and well, no worries.

Personally i think if they gave him a voice, he would sound just like anyone else in city 17.
Posted 17 years ago2006-09-13 19:56:04 UTC Post #196463
Actually, I've been thinking about this: a Half-Life film could potentially work, but it'd be dependant on a variety of factors, the most important of those being securing a good (and I do mean good) script and a good director. I have a certain vision in mind for such a film: it wouldn't be over-the-top action, but it'd be interesting and pacey.

I predict that someday there will be a HL film. Who knows when that'll be...

if it was done [without gordon as a lead] i think it would be a blueshift vs op4 movie. with the idea of a barney with a handful of scientists trying to escape but also following a group of grunts. there would be traps [cool ones like an intense sequence where a sci steps on a tripmine and cannot lift his foot, not a bucket of acid above a doorway] and other trials. though the story will be empathetic to both sides, the sci's and barneys would ultimately be the good guys.

The look of the movie would have a resident evil feel to it umbrella corp being black mesa.

Probably shot in canada... not nevada xD [like almost all movies]

they already eroded the barrier to cutscenes in ep 1 without anyone noticing, I dont see why it would be so difficult to make him speak in the next episode/movie
