Sorry, I'm a total newbie at this stuff. I have a model from a Source game (CS: S), that I want to port into another Source game (DoD: Source). Is this possible, and if yes how do I attempt this? The model is already in .vtf

You need to extract the models folder from the GFCScape file into the DOD folder and you also need the materials folder in there as well.

You might also need to change name of animations and fix bones and all of that stuff, not really easy.

Sorry, I should've been more clarified. :nervous:

It's a custom model that I downloaded off a website, are the steps basically the same? I don't really understand the "the models folder from the GFCScape file" part. :zonked:

I also have another question: Let's say you wanted to modify an existing default model (a DoD: S model in my case), where exactly would you find the file for the model? I can view the default DoD models with Half Life Model Viewer but I can't seem to find the actual thing, isn't it in the .gfc file?

It is indeed in the GFC file...You'll need the explorer program to open it.

Explorer = Half Life Model Viewer? I've already used the HLMV to view the file, but I can't modify the existing model... je suis confused.

GFC or GCF?

GCFScape will allow you to extract the model files from the .GCFs, however you can't alter the actual .GCF.

You can use GCFScape to get the game's models from the GCF and alter them, then save them as a model with a different name (so the old and new ones don't have arguements), in case you don't want to make em from scratch :) . After you have your new models, the process of getting them into the game is pretty much the same. Just pop em into the model directory, and you'll be all set. Of course, don't forget the textures.
