Lisen m8, they hate you for a reason,

Since they don't like you, they ignore you, and that should be the end of your troubbles

Usually, people from the VERC are in good humour, if you don't get sarchasm, or a joke, then don't bother joining...

And grow up, this sort of thing should pass most people by...

#TWHL was set up by Skeeve.
It is not controlled by atom.
I occasionally moderate, but not often.
If you don't like the channel don't join... simple.

Just some information on why I set up an IRC channel with ChatBear instead of some of the others out there.

Many of the IRC servers, such as DalNet, and other larger servers heavily rely on inetd. This makes things tough for some people to log onto the server (especally Windows Users).

#valveerc is on the server. Usually there are several people on there that are know their stuff. Use it, but do not be pushy :)

Ever since Valve found that TWHL exists, they have been much more receptive to Newbie questions. I strongly believe this is in direct relationship to the attitudes of this sites administrators and membership.

The issue of Marvin:

I guess folks are complaining that Marvin is not on the channel. The way Marvin works is, the bot will not visit the channel if registered users do not log in occationally. The only way Marvin knows if you are registered is if you identify yourself.

To identify: Privite message Marvin with

!identify EMAIL PASSWORD

of course your EMAIL is the address you used to register your BearKey account with.

Sorry I have not been on much, real life has been requiring a lot of time. When it comes to the IRC stuff, Atom and Andy do have full administrator privledges.

Should wrap up real life issues in six months or so and can start mapping again (may have to learn the basics again). Just thought this post can help some concerning IRC issues.

Set author to Skeeve, presuming it was he :) - Seventh

I like the VERCers. Bagpuss doesn't like me all that much sometimes, but I don't hate him or anything, and I have no real problem with him. Basically, I get on with them fine.
Posted 20 years ago2004-01-26 16:14:33 UTC Post #13990
I have no grudge against the VERCers. Don't know them so I can't make a judgement.
Posted 20 years ago2004-01-26 16:52:09 UTC Post #13999
would it b possible 2 give every twhl member who goes on irc alot like jaardsi or zl an identification with marv so that they can identify but not actually hav any admin powers.

Ministeve: Only the channel OWNER (Skeeve) can bring Marvin back. Other admins (Andy and atom) can't.
Posted 20 years ago2004-01-27 15:51:48 UTC Post #14097
Not true, Marvin will pop into all channels that you are in when you !identify yourself. The trick is, if he is not in #TWHL, pop over to #valveerc and !identify with him there. Marvin will then pop into all the rooms you have an open chat with.

Marvin was written to keep an eye on registered rooms that have registered members frequenting.
Posted 20 years ago2004-01-27 16:08:38 UTC Post #14099
No he won't. When I !identify, he only returns to my channel.

Um, that's what Skeeve said. Call Marvin from any channel and he will return to yours

DONT!
Posted 20 years ago2004-01-30 15:06:59 UTC Post #14461
No, don't. Leave it as yourself, Andy and atom. It's much safer that way.
Posted 20 years ago2004-01-30 15:51:23 UTC Post #14466
What goes on in IRC has little to do with the site,
Posted 20 years ago2004-01-30 15:59:38 UTC Post #14474

Posted 20 years ago2004-01-30 16:01:25 UTC Post #14475
No, don't. And it's #valveerc, not #verc.
Posted 20 years ago2004-01-31 03:31:02 UTC Post #14547
Excellent,
I didn't know I could identify with Marvin, when he was somewhere else. I will do that from now on, and maybe he will stick around.
Posted 20 years ago2004-01-31 10:39:27 UTC Post #14599
NOOOOO! I hate Marvin!!
m0p m0pIllogical.

Posted 20 years ago2004-01-31 11:24:53 UTC Post #14617
Lol if you think thats bad try not getting sarcasm when everyone who would be either playing a single online game or its forum but they are down so everyone is in irc getting very mad because there are people coming and going every few minutes and all arrivals keep asking is it fixed yet?, if not then when   :zonked:

Currently there are 109 people on the games irc channel so many its starting to resemble a refugee camp for all the people in the game. lol
