when ever i try to compile a map i get this error...

"unable to load C:program filessteamsteam appsharorider195counter-strike sourcebinfilesystem_steam.dll"

sooo i checked that folder and filesystem_steam.dll isnt even in there, i suppose thats why hammer wasnt able to open it...but how was i compiling things before if that file was never in that folder to begin with. unless it somehow deleted itself.

has any one ever encountered this problem? what causes it and how can it be fixed?

If this is the problem I think it is, then it is easy to solve.

Simply start Counter-strike: Source (not through hammer, but from the games list) and then exit CSS again..
And then try compiling it again.

well im half way there, it gets to the main cs:s screen but then it just stays there.it keeps on saying im "timing out" in console.

Well, then it is not the problem I thought it was.

Try deleting clientregistery.blob in your steam folder.
That sloves 90% of all steam related problems.
