I'm not voting for Map of the Year. I don't play any CS and I haven't played any custom HL2DM maps this year either. That leaves me with HL1DM and HL1SP, and well, there isn't much too choose from. I could pick 3 maps, but really, they might be the best of the bunch, they don't deserve 'BEST MAP OF THE YEAR'.

Srry: personal preference. Maps you think are great may genuinely not impress someone else.
SPs in general for example are boring/repetative to me, no matter how carefully made (not to take away the enormous amount of work and dedication goes into making even a mediocre sp).
Everyone raves about Minimicus and while i appreciate and am awed by the technical challenges, I didn't like it and wouldn't play it again.
Daubster: I'll put alpestrine ahead of de_mon if it breaks the tie. I played them both again, and while de_mon is an amazing achievement of performance and unprecedented size (as well some neat doodads) I have to prefer the eleganct, escheresque beauty of alpestrine.
Another thing that really impresses me about that map is though the playable area is rather small, the immensely creative layout makes it "feel" much bigger; You can and do get confused as to where you are and where you're going! (which is perfect for a smaller map, not too much worry about landmarking)
Mon and Alpestrine are opposites of sorts, and both awsome, but I prefer Dm_Alpestrine.

I can't believe dm_alpestrine is getting the title of 'map of the year'. It's probably because most people here seem to worship anything that comes outta Rimrooks ass.....but lets stay on-topic now.

And yeah, I'd also have to say de_mon > Alpestrine. Both visually and gameplay-wise. De_mon is close to revolutionary for a CS map in terms of gameplay and visuals vs. performance, while Alpestrine, even if looking very nice, was just killbox-like with weapon and powerup spam.

Yeah de_Mon is amazing, and my first impression was I almost crapped myself... : 0
It's also rare to see the sky match the world so seamlessly too, Impressive work in all respects, though the big texures and overly brightness in most areas wore on me a bit.
