I have an idea for a mod, unfortunately I don't code. I'd like to see a mod with no "up" or "down, ala MC Escher. Anyone up to the task? I don't see a need for new weapons or graphics, just a way to change which way you fall. I'd suggest creating an entity called "trigger_down"... but then again I know nothing about coding.

Let me know if it can be done and I'll start mapping!

you could try a trigger_gravity with a setting of 0% and a trigger push turning on simultaneously, it wouldn't be perfect but it could work.

High: it wouldnt work, down would still be down, up would still be up.
Theres no away around it: Code

Yup... I'm just hoping someone who can code grabs the idea and runs with it!

Sounds like a good idea but, how the hell would you... you know.

No clue, I'm just hoping it can/will be done. :)

I know the camera work is do-able... in the mod Opera you can flip and dive and roll, and the screen actually spins or flips or whatever (unlike the backflips in Ricochet, where you don't see any difference but your enemy does).

What it comes "down" to is whether or not coding can change "down". In the Descent series you could change the down direction anywhere in the map, but you could also create rooms that defy other laws of physics... rooms that are bigger inside than outside, intersecting hallways that don't intersect, weird stuff.

This is probably too hardcore for the HL engine, maybe when H2 is released...

Descent is an oldie-but-goodie

Yea I played that. I just never seemed to get into it. On the subject of old-skool shoot-em-ups, did you ever play that old playsation game called 'epidemic'?

Oooh Riiight! Descent! I got freaking headaches by that, you couldnt tell up from right from left from down! Stupid game, really.

descent ruled!

i kno how to, surround the player with clip brushes in the bits u fall and have to control how the player moves in the 'directions' and take them off when u need to run round and fight (func_wall_toggle) or sumtin, but then again ull need to use spirit for having the clip brushes to move AND disappear

Maybe turn off gravity alltogether and make it so that you rotate an unlimited amount, in stead of the usual 90 degrees up and down, and voila, no way to way to figure out what is up and what is down.

Maybe it is possible to code it so that if you float off a platform, you die??

Also (at least with Spirit of Hal-life) you can make rain "fall" up, or sideways, and i that should mess with your orientation too.

also check http://www.glitchedtodeath.moddb.com no up down, either.

I have this funny idea, prove me wrong, but I dont think optical illusions like this can actually be made in 3 dimensions :P

Ah, but "Relativity" (it is called that?) isn't a trick, it's just got people walking upside down on stairs; no illusions.

And you can forget about trying to create Belvadere and Waterfall, you wont even be able to.
