i supose the pipes are causing these terrible shadows. has any one got any idea on how to battle this problem and get nice shadows from the pipes? or none atall?

(additional info: the pipes are prop_dynamic... this is css... ?)

p.s: image shack doesnt support bitmap files lol.

If you were trying to upload bmp files, you seriously need to stop using the internet and and read a couple of books on the topic.

Back to the problem at hand:
Select the pipes and set the cast shadows property to No.

Download IrfanView. It has lots of functions and is really easy to use.
JPEG suck, PNG is a thousand times better than both JPEG and BMP.
PNG has lossless compression meaning even if you set "Compression level" to 9 (high) it will look exactly as good as a BMP but have a much smaller file size.

what exactly is this irfanview?

... moving on to the next question.
in my map i have a prop_dynamic with a crate model. inside the game the crate doesnt show up. why is this so? i want some unbreakable crates that dont move and just stay in one place so that the player can use them to jump somwhere.

edit: i also tried setting them to prop_static. they still dont show up inside the game.

One can tell Irfan view is a ultra-compact photoshop without the ability to modify the picture directly using drawing tools .

Err ... I'm not good at telling you what Irfan does . I use it too . It's a lot faster than Photoshop when I need to resize , change color and this basic things .
Download it .

prop_static is what you should use for all solid, non-animated, non-moving props in your level. So those pipes you're using in the roof should be prop_static.

Some models will not work as a prop_static though, because they're designed as physics objects, or dynamic objects, in which case you should (obviously) use prop_physics or prop_dynamic. You can disable damage and movement of these prop types in the flags and prop settings.
