Is it possible to create wall textures that emits a glow and also acts as a light source itself?

Not the whole wall but portions of it, to give an eery alien feel for example. Like a fungal infested wall that emits a glow, or a series of lines that run through the wall that emit light.

Not a dynamic 'area' light but a direct source of light itself, so if you moved close to it you would see the glow reflect off your weapon if you went past a line in it as appropriate, further away it is just a general overall glow depending on other lights.

In the second image the gaps would be a lot narrower so you could easily walk over them (if needed) without falling.

This would be for Source - IE: HL2 and onwards.

well you can make parts of your texture fullbright to give a glowing effect using alpha maps, check out the valve dev community wiki.

to make textures emit light you need to use texlighting which I don't think is very common in source mapping. and i'm not sure how you'd use it in conjunction with the first effect. but yeah...

yeah why is source texlighting so much more of a pain in the ass?

I could make the effect of the first image in goldsource... Just make the glowing ring textures seperate textures and place them on a brush over the other texture. Make the glowing ring emit light and set it to additive and make it fade to black all around it.
